# Virals: West Ham striker Michail Antonio set for Jamaica call-up

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/19/virals-kurt-zouma-tempted-by-move-to-west-ham-this-summer/) forward [Michail Antonio](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/15/graeme-souness-lauds-brilliant-michail-antonio-display/) is set to be called up by Jamaica next month following a switch in international allegiances.

The 31-year-old [declared for the Caribbean nation](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12248691/michail-antonio-west-ham-striker-chooses-jamaica-over-england) recently and has since received all the necessary documentation to make a debut.

Born in London, the talismanic Iron is yet to represent [either England or Jamaica](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michail-antonio/nationalmannschaft/spieler/104124/verein_id/3671) at any level.

According to a report from [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/news/michail-antonio-set-to-play-for-jamaica-next-month-after-securing-passport/uuNIkJY6lWVS), as cited by [Roshane Thomas](https://twitter.com/RoshaneSport/status/1428036160727785481) on Twitter, that could all change when the ‘Reggae Boyz’ face Mexico on September 3.

Antonio could then take on [Panama and Costa Rica](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/jamaica/scores-fixtures/2021-09) in 2022 World Cup qualifying fixtures.

Last season the versatile ace scored [10 Premier League goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michail-antonio/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/104124) and added five assists in 26 appearances.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Whilst every Hammer to a man will be delighted to see Antonio obtain the international recognition his [performances have deserved](https://www.sofascore.com/player/michail-antonio/47772) for some time, there is an underlying issue here for Davies Moyes.

Still without a senior alternative and with less than two weeks remaining in the transfer window, the additional workload for the [injury-prone star](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michail-antonio/verletzungen/spieler/104124) will be a concern.

West Ham must be active in the closing days and should prioritise a striker over any other position.
