# Virals: Fabrizio Romano claims Nikola Milenkovic set to stay at Fiorentina

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/19/virals-west-ham-striker-michail-antonio-set-for-jamaica-call-up/) were seemingly close to completing the capture of Fiorentina central defender [Nikola Milenkovic](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/09/virals-nikola-milenkovic-reportedly-on-the-verge-of-west-ham-transfer/) last week.

The 23-year-old Serbian international [looked almost certain](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-transfer-news-nikola-milenkovic-kurt-zouma-b949959.html) to be the second man through the arrivals door at the London Stadium last week.

However, the Hammers’ move for the ace [hit the rocks](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12380548/tottenham-in-talks-to-sign-nikola-milenkovic-after-west-ham-move-stalls) and strong interest was forthcoming from Tottenham.

According to reliable journalist [Fabrizio Romano](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1428104723559821313) on Twitter, neither London club is likely to land Milenkovic with the centre-back set to complete a full U-turn to remain in Florence.

The [28 times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-milenkovic/nationalmannschaft/spieler/413507/verein_id/3438) Serbia ace is expected to put pen to paper on a three-year deal despite admiration from the Premier League.

Last season, Milenkovic [scored three times and added one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-milenkovic/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/413507) in 34 Serie A outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £22.5million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-milenkovic/marktwertverlauf/spieler/413507)), the prospect of completing the signing at a bargain fee was an exciting proposition for West Ham fans everywhere.

As one deal falls another must resurface with [less than two weeks](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12257542/summer-transfer-window-2021-when-does-it-open-news-dates-and-deadline-day) until the transfer window closes and David Moyes [adamant](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/news/david-moyes-west-ham-transfers-21317714) defensive reinforcements are necessary.

Chelsea man Kurt Zouma could be the next in line, with [unlikely Liverpool hero Nat Phillips](https://www.football365.com/news/west-ham-make-contact-with-liverpool-over-defender) perhaps the backup option should all else fail.
