# Trevor Sinclair laments transfer inactivity at West Ham

Former [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/13/gabby-agbonlahor-urges-west-ham-to-land-perfect-divock-origi-capture/) winger [Trevor Sinclair](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/23/trevor-sinclair-makes-a-case-for-declan-rice-to-stay-at-west-ham/) has been bemoaning the lack of transfer activity this summer at the London Stadium.

This comes on the eve of the Hammers beginning their Premier League campaign with a [trip to St James’ Park](https://www.whufc.com/fixtures/first-team/fixtures-and-results) to face Newcastle United.

So far the Irons have only managed to [land Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/july/29-july/west-ham-united-sign-world-cup-winning-goalkeeper-alphonse-areola) for the first team.

As a deal for Nikola Milenkovic [reportedly stalls](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12380548/tottenham-in-talks-to-sign-nikola-milenkovic-after-west-ham-move-stalls) and Frederik Alves [leaves](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/sunderland-fred-alves-west-ham-21309179) for League One Sunderland on loan, David Moyes has a worrying lack of options.

Speaking on [talkSPORT](https://twitter.com/talkSPORT/status/1426104683660259328?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1426104683660259328%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-494073542255638635.ampproject.net%2F2107302322001%2Fframe.html), the ex-Iron of [196 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/trevor-sinclair/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/3253) was frustrated by the lack of incomings in east London.

> It’s great they have made the Europa League but the squad’s not strong enough. We definitely need a striker, players in every position really just to pad the squad out, and you can buy average players really. It’s a fantastic starting line-up, probably in the forward areas, I think they have got few options, but when you start going into holding midfielders I think we’re starting to look at weaknesses in the strength and depth in the squad.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Last season manager Moyes performed minor miracles with the [squad](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) to finish sixth in the Premier League and secure Europa League football.

However, as the new season begins and the Scottish manager remains without an adequate [Sebastien Haller replacement](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jan/08/west-ham-sell-sebastien-haller-to-ajax-at-25m-loss) or Fabian Balbuena successor, issues could be set to manifest.

Midfield duo Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek were a [major factor](https://talksport.com/football/846100/west-ham-declan-rice-tomas-soucek-worth-lorry-limbs/) in the success of last term and as things stand the pair may be called upon across all competitions.

With a little under two weeks remaining in the window, the club simply must find a new centre-back, midfielder and forward if Moyes is going to have any chance of [replicating last season](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jul/25/premier-league-overachievers-underachievers-those-in-between) without one arm behind his back.
