# Virals: West Ham have offer rejected for Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/12/virals-manchester-united-reportedly-open-to-sale-of-jesse-lingard/) have reportedly seen a bid for Rennes defender [Nayef Aguerd](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/06/virals-west-ham-open-preliminary-talks-over-nayef-aguerd-transfer/) rejected by the French Ligue 1 club.

This comes despite the Hammers reaching what has been [described](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-transfer-news-nikola-milenkovic-kurt-zouma-b949959.html) as a ‘very advanced’ stage in a deal for Fiorentina central defender Nikola Milenkovic.

Irons’ manager David Moyes has been actively attempting to bolster the defensive department at the London Stadium following the [exit of Fabian Balbuena](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/june/04-june/retained-list-issued-fabian-balbuena-depart#:~:text=West%20Ham%20United%20has%20issued,the%20Hammers%2C%20scoring%20three%20goals.) at the start of the summer.

According to journalist [Ignazio Genuardi](https://twitter.com/IgnazioGenuardi/status/1425750246043308034), as cited by [Sport Witness](https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness/status/1425791579588112387) on Twitter, the pursuit stretches as far as an offer for the 25-year-old Moroccan.

The initial report says Rennes will ‘refuse to let go’ of the [eight-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nayef-aguerd/nationalmannschaft/spieler/361914/verein_id/3575) ace despite being in line to bank a healthy profit on their £3.6million expenditure ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nayef-aguerd/transfers/spieler/361914)).

Last season Aguerd [scored three and assisted one goal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nayef-aguerd/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/361914) in 35 league outings – earning an impressive [7.07 average Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/nayef-aguerd/877102) rating in the process.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £7.2million and under contract until 2024 in France ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nayef-aguerd/marktwertverlauf/spieler/361914)), the mooted £16.9million bid would represent a good deal for all parties.

Clearly [unwilling](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/west-ham-make-opening-bid-sign-ligue-1-centre-back) to sanction a departure, without West Ham paying over the odds anyway, perhaps the Irons should settle either for Milenkovic or focus elsewhere.

Should additional options be viewed as essential, with Liverpool willing to [accept offers of around £15million](https://theathletic.com/news/liverpool-transfer-nat-phillips-latest/bOqVwpgFllsN#:~:text=Liverpool%20set%20Nat%20Phillips%20asking%20price%20at%20%C2%A315m&text=Liverpool%20have%20placed%20a%20%C2%A3,year%2Dold%20centre%2Dback.) for a Premier League proven Nat Phillips, a move there would surely make more sense than another tilt at Aguerd.
