# Virals: West Ham in ‘pole position’ to sign Nikola Milenkovic

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/03/virals-west-ham-hold-keen-interest-in-sao-paolo-star-igor-gomes/) are now believed to be in pole position to sign Fiorentina central defender [Nikola Milenkovic](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/02/virals-journalist-says-west-ham-have-submitted-14m-offer-for-serie-a-ace/).

The Hammers have reportedly moved ahead of London rivals Tottenham in the [race to land the 23-year-old](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/west-ham-talks-tottenham-target-nikola-milenkovic-transfer) this summer.

Linked with a move since January, the Irons could be set to finally land their man as Spurs [edge towards a move](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/12371543/tottenham-transfer-news-spurs-close-in-on-deal-for-atalanta-defender-cristian-romero) for Atalanta ace Cristian Romero.

That’s according to a report from [The Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1471307/Taylor-s-Tuesday-Transfers-Arsenal-s-Willock-decision-Cantwell-contract-Matheus-Pereira) journalist Ryan Taylor as cited by [Football Transfers](https://twitter.com/Transferzone00/status/1422533492592680963) on Twitter.

The report claims that the Serie A club are now open to selling the [28 times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-milenkovic/nationalmannschaft/spieler/413507/verein_id/3438) Serbia international having allowed the ace to enter the [final 12 months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-milenkovic/profil/spieler/413507) of a contract.

Last season the 6’5 powerhouse [scored three times and made one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-milenkovic/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/413507) in 34 league outings – taking an overall senior goal tally to an impressive [15 in 177 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-milenkovic/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/413507). from centre-back.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £22.5millon despite a dwindling contract ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-milenkovic/marktwertverlauf/spieler/413507)), singing Milenkovic for the mooted £13million fee would be a bargain buy.

As other reported targets such as Kurt Zouma could [potentially cost double](https://www.90min.com/posts/chelsea-transfer-news-set-asking-price-kurt-zouma) that amount, the Serbian has to be the priority at the London Stadium.

Unsurprisingly an [aerial threat](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/319785/Show/Nikola-Milenkovic), adding Milenkovic to Tomas Soucek, Craig Dawson and Declan Rice would pose an ominous sight for opposition defenders.
