# Virals: West Ham hold ‘keen interest’ in Sao Paolo star Igor Gomes

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/03/virals-west-ham-target-matheus-pereira-confirms-transfer-ambitions/) are believed to have taken a ‘keen interest’ in attempting to sign Sao Paulo midfielder Igor Gomes this summer.

The Hammers are reportedly interested in the 22-year-old as [David Moyes](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/30/virals-west-ham-eye-multiple-central-defensive-transfer-options/) looks for options to replenish the [squad](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) having lost Felipe Anderson and said goodbye to loan star Jesse Lingard.

Gomes is a [regular starter](https://www.sofascore.com/player/igor-gomes/913598) for the Brazilian top-flight club and could cost in the region of €15 million (£12.5 million).

That’s according to a report from [Homme du Match](https://www.hommedumatch.fr/articles/exclus-hdm/west-ham-un-oeil-sur-igor-gomes-sao-paulo-surnomme-le-nouveau-kaka_2572026), as cited by the outlet’s official [Twitter](https://twitter.com/Homme_Du_Match/status/1422304100000145415) account.

The report dubs the attacking midfielder as the ‘new Kaka’ as the [four-times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/igor-gomes/nationalmannschaft/spieler/553459/verein_id/37018) Under 23 starlet shares similar traits with the [Ballon d’Or winner](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kaka/erfolge/spieler/3366).

Despite his tender years, Gomes has already made [114 first-team appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/igor-gomes/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/553459) for Sao Paolo – scoring eight and assisting 11 other goals along the way.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £7.65million and under contract until 2023 in Brazil ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/igor-gomes/marktwertverlauf/spieler/553459)), signing the talented ace would be a major coup for the Irons this summer as deals for Matheus Pereira and Lingard become increasingly difficult.

Incredibly versatile, Gomes would likely come in as a [number 10](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/igor-gomes/leistungsdaten/spieler/553459) to play behind the likes of Michail Antonio.

Landing highly regarding [South American talent](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/fifa-world-cup-qualifying-conmebol/story/4343684/wonderkids-of-south-america-alvarezveronkaio-jorge-lead-all-star-list) is always an exciting proposition and the Hammers faithful would likely relish the opportunity to witness Gomes at the London Stadium.

Credited with [ferocious efforts](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/349214/Show/Igor-Gomes) from long-range, strong aerial ability and capable of retaining possession, the Brazilian ace would be a worthwhile acquisition at the mooted fee even if the Kaka comparison proves to be fanciful.
