# Virals: West Ham miss out as Roman Yaremchuk joins Benfica

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/02/virals-journalist-says-west-ham-have-submitted-14m-offer-for-serie-a-ace/) have missed out on signing powerful Ukranian striker [Roman Yaremchuk](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/07/virals-west-ham-seriously-considering-move-for-roman-yaremchuk/) this summer.

Linked with a move for the now ex-Gent ace as David Moyes goes in search of attacking reinforcements, the 25-year-old [completed](https://www.slbenfica.pt/en-us/agora/media-list/gallery/2021/07/31/futebol-benfica-yaremchuk-contratado) a switch to Portuguese giants Benfica over the weekend.

Despite seemingly never launching an official bid for the 6’2 frontman, it would seem the Hammers were [always observing](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1450218/West-Ham-transfer-news-Gent-Ukraine-striker-Roman-Yaremchuk-Euro-2020) the situation.

That’s according to a report from [HLN](https://myprivacy.dpgmedia.be/consent?siteKey=Uqxf9TXhjmaG4pbQ&callbackUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.hln.be%2Fprivacy-gate%2Faccept-tcf2%3FredirectUri%3D%252F) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/west-ham-transfer-dithering-sees-hammers-lose-signing-rivals/)) claiming the Irons ‘waited’ to make a move.

Signed for £15.3million and awarded a contract until 2026 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/roman-yaremchuk/transfers/spieler/221958)), Yaremchuk’s [fine form for the Ukraine](https://www.sofascore.com/player/roman-yaremchuk/829296) at Euro 2020 helped bring the striker to the attention of European clubs.

Last season the [29-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/roman-yaremchuk/nationalmannschaft/spieler/221958/verein_id/3699) star [scored 23 goals and registered eight assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/roman-yaremchuk/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/221958) in 43 appearances across all competitions.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing a striker is wholly necessary at the London Stadium to provide support and [competition](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) to Michail Antonio.

Whilst Yaremchuk may not have been the ideal solution, the Ukrainian was certainly [amongst the leading candidates](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/roman-yaremchuk/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/221958) and Moyes will now have to look elsewhere.

Names such as Tammy Abraham, Adam Armstrong and Martin Braithwaite have [previously been linked](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/transfer-news/) and could now be bumped up the list of targets.
