# Virals: West Ham eye multiple central defensive transfer options

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/30/virals-journalist-claims-west-ham-are-preparing-offer-for-matheus-pereira/) are believed to be considering a number of central defensive options this summer.

Irons’ boss David Moyes has made no secret of a desire to bolster the [department](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) since arriving back at the London Stadium for a second spell in charge.

Having [tried in vain](https://talksport.com/football/760981/james-tarkowski-west-ham-third-final-bid-burnley-rejected/#:~:text=West%20Ham%20have%20failed%20with,50m%20valuation%20for%20the%20defender.) to land Burnley star James Tarkowski last summer, the Scot is back in the market once again for a top-quality centre-back.

According to a detailed report from [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/west-ham-transfer-news-mykola-matviyenko-mouctar-diakhaby-interest), as cited by [Toby Cudworth](https://twitter.com/Toby_Cudworth/status/1420798990765993988) on Twitter, the Hammers are currently assessing options from across the continent.

The report claims Shakhtar Donetsk ace [Mykola Matviyenk](https://readwestham.com/2020/08/27/west-ham-interested-in-20m-rated-mykola-matviyenko/) has been on the radar at the London Stadium for ‘around a year’ whilst the club also monitor 24-year-old Valencia and [France Under 21 star](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mouctar-diakhaby/nationalmannschaft/spieler/346289/verein_id/9323) Mouctar Diakhaby.

This comes as Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol [revealed](https://twitter.com/SkyKaveh/status/1420743421434626054) on Thursday that the Irons are negotiating with Chelsea over a possible move for Kurt Zouma.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Both Matviyenk and Diakhaby have [UEFA Champions League experience](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vergleich/spielervergleich/statistik/def/spieler/289059&346289) and would be excellent additions to the West Ham squad.

Capped [45 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mykola-matvienko/nationalmannschaft/spieler/289059/verein_id/3699) by Ukraine, Matvienko would represent the more experienced performer and perhaps the most attainable option.

Interestingly, the same [report](https://www.90min.com/posts/west-ham-transfer-news-mykola-matviyenko-mouctar-diakhaby-interest) also speaks of an interest in midfield options such as Jesse Lingard, Matheus Pereira, Ross Barkley and Slavia Prague winger Lukas Masopust.
