# Virals: West Ham ‘most keen’ on Lille defender Sven Botman

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/28/virals-negotiations-for-alphonse-areola-continue-very-slowly/) have been named among a number of Premier League clubs in the hunt to sign Lille centre-back [Sven Botman](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/23/tottenham-enter-the-race-to-sign-liverpool-target-sven-botman/) this summer.

The Hammers are joined by Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Newcastle, Norwich City and Tottenham in holding an interest in the Dutchman.

Botman has also attracted admirers in Serie A and the Bundesliga having seemingly been [close to a move to Liverpool](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-transfer-sven-botman-admission-20607946) during the January transfer window.

According to [Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre (Wednesday 10.22am)](https://www.skysports.com/transfer-centre), as cited by [EURO West Ham](https://twitter.com/hammers_uy/status/1420363475373658117) on Twitter, the Irons are at the forefront on a domestic level.

The report adds that the [French Ligue 1 champions](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/may/23/european-roundup-lille-win-at-angers-to-seal-first-ligue-1-title-in-10-years) would be willing to part ways with the 21-year-old should bids of £27million be forthcoming.

Botman enjoyed an impressive Under 21 European Championships with Holland – earning a [7.05 average Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/sven-botman/910046) from four outings.

That form followed [47 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sven-botman/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/361093) for Lille across all competitions, including eight in the Europa League.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £25.2million and under contract until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sven-botman/marktwertverlauf/spieler/361093)), signing Botman for the mooted £27million would be a bargain.

Clearly a player of [incredible promise](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/379732/Show/Sven-Botman) given the levels of interest, the young Dutchman could potentially be a Hammer for years to come if David Moyes can make the deal happen.

Having bizarrely turned up as a [goalscoring centre-forward on two occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sven-botman/leistungsdaten/spieler/361093) for Ajax at Under 17 level, Moyes could utilise the 6’3 ace in more than one capacity.
