# Virals: West Ham ‘in talks’ with Chelsea over Kurt Zouma transfer

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/29/virals-west-ham-reach-an-agreement-for-alphonse-areola-loan-move/) have reportedly opened talks to sign Chelsea central defender [Kurt Zouma](https://readchelsea.com/2020/11/12/chelsea-kurt-zouma-talks-potential-new-deal/) this summer.

The 26-year-old had previously been touted as a [possible inclusion in a deal](https://talksport.com/football/918364/chelsea-transfers-kurt-zouma-jules-kounde/) to bring Jules Kounde to the west London club.

However, the Hammers are believed have joined the conversation for the Frenchman as manager [David Moyes looks to boost the defensive options](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/transfer-news/) at the London Stadium.

That’s according to Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/SkyKaveh/status/1420743421434626054).

It’s claimed that the [eight-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kurt-zouma/nationalmannschaft/spieler/157509/verein_id/3377) France ace would ‘welcome’ the move across London.

Zouma has become a [serial trophy winner](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kurt-zouma/erfolge/spieler/157509) at Chelsea having lifted the Premier League twice before playing a part in UEFA Champions League success earlier this year.

Last season the commanding centre-back made [36 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kurt-zouma/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/157509) for the Blues and earned a [7.15 average Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/kurt-zouma/139227) from 24 league outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing Zouma would certainly [strengthen the defensive department](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) available to Moyes.

Valued at £28.8million and under contract until 2023 at Stamford Bridge ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kurt-zouma/marktwertverlauf/spieler/157509)), any deal slightly upwards of the £20million offered would be a worthwhile venture.

Once [billed](https://www.90min.com/posts/6418261-kurt-zouma-the-new-marcel-desailly-deserves-a-starting-berth-at-chelsea-in-2019-20) as the ‘new Marcel Desailly’ by Jose Mourinho, Zouma is Credited with [strong aerial ability](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/106086/Show/Kurt-Zouma) and inception skills, the French ace certainly possesses the attributes and experience to be a starter for the Hammers.
