# Trevor Sinclair makes a case for Declan Rice to stay at West Ham

Former [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/22/gabby-agbonlahor-believes-west-ham-may-still-land-jesse-lingard/) winger Trevor Sinclair has been pleading with current star [Declan Rice](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/20/carlton-cole-believes-west-ham-star-declan-rice-is-worth-100million/) to remain a Hammer beyond this summer at least.

This comes as speculation once again surrounds the 22-year-old following on from [two contract rejections](https://www.eurosport.com/football/transfers/2020-2021/transfer-news-declan-rice-rejects-two-west-ham-contracts-to-listen-to-offers-from-champions-league-c_sto8399456/story.shtml#:~:text=Declan%20Rice%20has%20rejected%20two,informed%20of%20any%20potential%20offers.) and reignited interest from Chelsea.

On the back of a superb European Championships, Rice has also gained [admiration](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-transfers-rice-manchester-united-20988576) from both Manchester clubs as well as Liverpool and could be subject to a tempting offer in the near future.

Speaking to [talkSPORT on Thursday 22 July (8:30am)](https://talksport.com/radio/listen-again/1626930000/1626939000/), Sinclair made a case for the midfield enforcer to stay in east London.

> I hope he (Rice) stays. I think he’s got a lot more growth at the football club, they’ve given him a great platform. He’s done everything he can do. He’s 22, he’s captain, plays every week, valued by the manager and the fans, his teammates love him – why would you want to force a move? I don’t think he needs to do that. He’s at a great club and he’s valued.

During England’s run to the final and ultimately penalty shoot out despair, Rice earned an average [Sofascore rating of 6.81](https://www.sofascore.com/player/declan-rice/856714) across seven matches.

Capped [24 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/nationalmannschaft/spieler/357662/verein_id/3299) at senior level, the ace has quickly become a mainstay for both club and country.

Prior to a knee injury that ruled him out for six fixtures, Rice had [played every minute](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/357662/plus/0/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/379) in the Premier League up until May.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Having inspired the Irons to [Europa League qualification](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/may/23-may/west-ham-united-qualify-uefa-europa-league-final-day-win-over#:~:text=May%2018%3A13-,West%20Ham%20United%20qualify%20for%20UEFA%20Europa,final%2Dday%20win%20over%20Southampton&text=A%20first%2Dhalf%20brace%20from,for%20the%20UEFA%20Europa%20League.) last season, walking away from the club now would be a crushing blow.

Although West Ham and perhaps David Moyes’ transfer coffers would be in for a healthy windfall, allowing key assets to leave when the side is seemingly on an [upwards trajectory](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/march/07-march/david-moyes-transformation-year-ago-now-great) is not a good look.

Valued at £63million and under contract until 2023 at the London Stadium ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/marktwertverlauf/spieler/357662)), the Irons certainly hold all the cards regarding the future – but all involved will hope it doesn’t come to a head this summer.
