# Virals: West Ham interested in move for Chelsea ace Ross Barkley

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/22/viras-club-insider-confirms-interest-in-west-brom-ace-matheus-pereira/) have reportedly initiated talks to sign Chelsea midfielder [Ross Barkley](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/28/dean-windass-urges-west-ham-to-move-for-ross-barkley-this-summer/) this summer.

Irons’ boss David Moyes is hoping to [bolster the midfield options](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) at his disposal and could turn to the 27-year-old as a deal for Jesse Lingard becomes increasingly difficult.

Having spent [last season on loan](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54352181) at Aston Villa, Barkley may find it difficult to break into Thomas Tuchel’s plans at Stamford Bridge.

According to a report from [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/west-ham-transfer-news-ross-barkley-alternative-jesse-lingard-exclusive), as cited by [West Ham Fan Zone](https://twitter.com/WHUFCFZ) on Twitter, the Hammers are already making plans to land the Liverpudlian ace.

Barkey has worked under the [tutelage of Moyes previously](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ross-barkley/leistungsdatentrainer/spieler/131978/plus/0/verein/29/trainer_id/450) when the pair were together at Everton.

Capped on [33 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ross-barkley/nationalmannschaft/spieler/131978/verein_id/3299) by England, the midfield playmaker will be hoping to fourth resurrect a career having enjoyed a strong start to last season.

Once [hailed](https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/9608351/martinez-praises-special-barkley/more/3) as ‘special’ by Roberto Martinez, Barkley showed glimpses of a return to form in 2020/21 whilst scoring [three goals and registering one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ross-barkley/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/131978) in 24 Premier League outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £18million and under contract until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ross-barkley/marktwertverlauf/spieler/131978)), it seems highly unlikely the Hammers hierarchy would be willing to sanction a permanent deal this summer.

Perhaps a loan move with an obligation to buy should a number of certain stipulations be met would be a far safer bet given the ace’s [checkered](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ross-barkley/verletzungen/spieler/131978) recent injury record.

As both Everton and Newcastle also consider a move for the [undoubtedly talented](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55244478) Barkley, Moyes would no doubt fancy his chances of bringing the best out of the Englishman once again.
