# Virals: West Ham could move for Liverpool defender Nat Phillips

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/21/virals-journalist-names-jarrod-bowen-as-surprise-liverpool-target/) are reportedly interested in making a move for Liverpool defender [Nat Phillips](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/22/virals-bayer-leverkusen-interested-in-liverpool-hero-nat-phillips/) this summer.

Irons’ boss David Moyes is on the lookout for an additional centre-back this summer after [Fabian Balbuena left the club](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/june/04-june/retained-list-issued-fabian-balbuena-depart#:~:text=West%20Ham%20United%20has%20issued,the%20Hammers%2C%20scoring%20three%20goals.) as a free agent.

However, the Hammers won’t have a free run at Phillips as Bayer Leverkusen, Brighton, Burnley and Newcastle have also been [credited](https://www.sussexlive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/phillips-brighton-transfer-liverpool-klopp-5677209) with holding an admiration.

The report claims that the Irons will only move for the 24-year-old should [another defender](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) leave the London Stadium.

Phillips came to the fore last season on Merseyside as Liverpool [lost all senior centre-backs](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-injuries-premier-league-rivals-20562795).

[Hailed](https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/football-news/burnley-liverpool-phillips-praise-difference-20636363) as ‘unbelievable’ by Jamie Redknapp, the ace earned an impressive average [Sofascore rating of 7.19](https://www.sofascore.com/player/nathaniel-phillips/920393) from 17 Premier League appearances.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £7.2million and under contract until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathaniel-phillips/marktwertverlauf/spieler/371814)), Liverpool are demanding a fee in the [region of £15million](https://theathletic.com/news/liverpool-transfer-nat-phillips-latest/bOqVwpgFllsN) for the Bolton-born defender.

As things stand, Angelo Ogbonna, Craig Dawson and Issa Diop are the [senior options](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad), although Danish 21-year-old Frederik Alves will hope to earn more first-team recognition.

Phillips would certainly provide a [worthwhile](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/381527/Show/Nathaniel-Phillips) and above all else, affordable option to bolster Moyes’ ranks, especailly as the club embarks on a Europa League campaign and the additional demands brought by Thursday night football.
