# Virals: Ex confirms West Ham are considering Divock Origi as striker alternative

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/19/virals-west-ham-interested-in-hibernian-full-back-josh-doig/) are believed to be considering a swoop for out of favour Liverpool forward [Divock Origi](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/19/noel-whelan-endorses-west-ham-move-for-liverpool-striker-divock-origi/) this summer.

The Belgian is being viewed upon as a [backup option](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/west-ham-advised-liverpool-divock-origi-tammy-abraham-alternative) to any move for Chelsea ace Tammy Abraham, should the 23-year-old Englishman prove to be too expensive or the Hammers miss out.

Initially, the Irons’ interest was reported by [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/liverpool-transfer-news-watford-winger-ismaila-sarr) before reliable club insider ExWHUemployee confirmed the admiration during the latest [West Ham Way](https://www.patreon.com/posts/twhw-podcast-new-53842268?utm_medium=post_notification_email&utm_source=post_link&utm_campaign=patron_engagement&token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJyZWRpc19rZXkiOiJpbnN0YW50LWFjY2Vzczo2YjI2OWU5Zi02ODcxLTQ0ZmYtODM1ZS01ZjE3ODk4ZmI2MmUifQ.uQgcmJDynbpr6k_BfA1-1f6gm0CGvtAUt8euUnjNrH0) podcast, as cited by [West Ham Central](https://twitter.com/WestHam_Central/status/1417091897735135232?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1417155176075567105%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es2_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.hammers.news%2Ftransfer-news%2Fwest-ham-fans-react-on-twitter-to-divock-origi-rumour%2F) on Twitter.

The 26-year-old has scored [35 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/divock-origi/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/148368) in 157 Liverpool appearances – including once in a UEFA Champions League fiscal success.

Capped on [29 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/divock-origi/nationalmannschaft/spieler/148368/verein_id/3382) by Belgium, Origi was once [described](https://www.skysports.com/football) as ‘unreal’ by young goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher.

Despite pertaining to be the frontline understudy to Roberto Firmino, the Belgian only managed [one goal in 17 outings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/divock-origi/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/148368) across all competitions last season.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing a striker to compete, play alongside and potentially [replace Michail Antonio](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/april/30-april/team-news-david-moyes-gives-michail-antonio-update) is imperative.

Despite struggling to contribute regularly at Anfield, Origi [possesses an abundance of attributes](https://anfieldindex.com/27874/divock-origi-pace-potential-patience.html) that would make the Belgian ideally suited to David Moyes’ squad.

Capable of operating on either wing and as a central striker, the [£10.8million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/divock-origi/marktwertverlauf/spieler/148368) ace could turn out to be the best option for the Hammers.
