# Virals: West Ham ‘in talks’ over move for Barcelona star Clement Lenglet

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/19/virals-blow-to-west-ham-as-jesse-lingard-wants-to-fight-for-role/) are reportedly in talks regarding a potential loan move for Barcelona defender [Clement Lenglet](https://readeverton.com/2021/07/14/virals-everton-keen-on-clement-lenglet/).

This comes as Irons’ boss David Moyes actively looks to [bolster the defensive ranks](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/west-ham-milenkovic-transfer-premier-league) at the London Stadium ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Linked with a [host of names](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/transfer-news/) in recent weeks, the 26-year-old Frenchman is the latest to enter the fray.

That’s according to journalist [Ekrem Konur](https://twitter.com/Ekremkonur/status/1416751716809203712) on Twitter, who claims the Hammers are discussing the transfer alongside Everton.

Moyes’ seemingly steadfast approach to signing a new central defender follows the departure of Fabian Balbuena, leaving Craig Dawson, Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna as the [remaining senior options](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad).

Last season Lenglet made [48 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/clement-lenglet/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/182904) across all competitions for the European giants – earning a [6.54 average Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/clement-lenglet/580550) across eight Champions League outings.

Capped on [13 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/clement-lenglet/nationalmannschaft/spieler/182904/verein_id/3377) by France at senior level, national team boss Didier Deschamps [hailed](https://twitter.com/BarcaUniversal/status/1171065275208232960?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1171065275208232960%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.90min.com%2Fin%2Fposts%2F6451798-didier-deschamps-showers-clement-lenglet-with-praise-as-he-rises-in-the-pecking-order-for-france) the ace as a ‘top player’ in 2019.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £22.5million and under contract until 2026 at the Camp Nou ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/clement-lenglet/marktwertverlauf/spieler/182904)), Lenglet could be a small part of a mass clearout in the Catalan region this summer.

West Ham could be the benefactors of that on more than one front as [links continue](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/west-ham-wait-obstacle-clear-martin-braithwaite-transfer-barcelona) with Martin Brathwaite.

In terms of Lenglet, the Hammers would be landing a [top-quality operator](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/236511/Show/Cl%C3%A9ment-Lenglet) who has performed at the highest level – a no brainer deal if possible.
