# Noel Whelan endorses West Ham move for Liverpool striker Divock Origi

Former Premier League striker Noel Whelan has endorsed a move from [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/19/virals-blow-to-west-ham-as-jesse-lingard-wants-to-fight-for-role/) to sign Liverpool outcast [Divock Origi](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/16/virals-west-ham-monitoring-liverpool-striker-divock-origi/) this summer.

This comes after a report from [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/liverpool-transfer-news-watford-winger-ismaila-sarr) claimed the Hammers were one of a number of clubs considering a move for the 26-year-old Belgian forward.

Irons boss David Moyes is very much in the market for an [additional striking option](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) this summer in order to offer competition to Michail Antonio.

Speaking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-tipped-to-swoop-for-origi-after-major-update-pundit/), Whelan has backed any potential move for the [£15million rated](https://theathletic.com/2684036/2021/07/01/liverpool-transfer-news-divock-origi-isnt-at-euro-2020-but-hes-likely-still-going-to-remain-on-merseyside/) Origi as a shrewd one.

> It’s a very reasonable price for Origi. We have see that on his day he is a great player. He is someone who can hold the ball up, get in behind or even play out wide. He gives you lots of options as a manager. At Liverpool he has been sitting in the shadows because of the talent they have. A lot of clubs will think that if he plays regularly he’ll be able to get himself into the groove and start scoring goals. He would be a great asset for West Ham or any club for that matter. If the Tammy Abraham deal doesn’t go through, you know there is a good player available there for £15million, which is not a lot of money in this day and age.

Whelan went on to describe the [29 times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/divock-origi/nationalmannschaft/spieler/148368/verein_id/3382) star as a player of ‘great quality’.

Last season was the worst yet in a Red shirt for Origi, scoring just [once across 17 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/divock-origi/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/148368) in all competitions.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing a striker this summer is perhaps the [greatest priority facing Moyes](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12309377/west-ham-the-summer-transfer-window-and-what-they-need-to-do) in the transfer window.

Capable of playing on either wing, Origi certainty has the [proven versatility](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/divock-origi/leistungsdaten/spieler/148368) to be a shrewd acquisition.

Having come up with the goods on big occasions, in particular with a [UEFA Champions League final strike](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11945/11733015/tottenham-0-2-liverpool-mo-salah-and-divock-origi-goals-hand-liverpool-sixth-european-crown), West Ham fans would likely be satisfied should the Belgian arrive in east London.
