# Virals: Chelsea to ‘test resolve’ of West Ham this summer over Declan Rice

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/14/virals-west-ham-still-pushing-for-jesse-lingard-signing/) could have a battle on their hands in order to keep hold of [Declan Rice](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/13/kevin-phillips-believes-declan-rice-will-leave-west-ham-this-summer/) this summer.

The 22-year-old midfielder has seen yet another rise in stock following an [impressive European Championships](https://www.sofascore.com/player/declan-rice/856714) and could be the subject of renewed interest.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester powerhouses City and United have all been [credited with a potential pursuit](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-transfers-rice-manchester-united-20988576) previously and the Hammers may be primed for forthcoming offers.

That’s according to a report from [Eurosport](https://www.eurosport.com/football/transfers/2020-2021/harry-kane-jack-grealish-and-declan-rice-all-lined-up-for-major-moves-after-euro-2020-transfer-noteb_sto8416364/story.shtml), as cited by [West Ham News & Views](https://twitter.com/WestHamViews_/status/1415204347697324033) on Twitter claiming the Stamford Bridge club are ready to make the first move.

Speculation surrounding Rice’s future in east London has been ramped up in recent weeks after it was reported the central midfield star had [rejected two new contract offers](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jul/01/declan-rice-rejects-west-ham-contract-offers-chelsea-manchester-united-city-champions-league) with the Irons.

A Premier League [ever-present](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/357662/plus/0/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/379) until a knee injury prevented participation, the [24-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/nationalmannschaft/spieler/357662/verein_id/3299) England ace has quickly become the key figure in David Moyes’ side.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Ultimately and perhaps, unfortunately, money could talk on this deal – especially were Rice to express a desire to leave.

Undoubtedly a [top-quality player](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/332325/Show/Declan-Rice) who deserves to be plying his trade amongst the elite and winning trophies, West Ham were always on the backfoot in attempting to match the Londoner’s [ambitions](https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/transfer-news/chelsea-transfer-news-declan-rice-19344046).

Perhaps the upcoming [involvement in the Europa League](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/may/23-may/west-ham-united-qualify-uefa-europa-league-final-day-win-over#:~:text=May%2018%3A13-,West%20Ham%20United%20qualify%20for%20UEFA%20Europa,final%2Dday%20win%20over%20Southampton&text=A%20first%2Dhalf%20brace%20from,for%20the%20UEFA%20Europa%20League.) will be enough to say the decision, albeit it could simply be delaying the inevitable.

Should it come to pass, West Ham must demand in excess of £100million for their [prized asset](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/marktwertanalyse/verein/379) in order to sufficiently replenish the squad.
