[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/12/virals-west-ham-in-pole-position-to-sign-tammy-abraham/) are believed to be targeting a move for FC Koln midfielder [Ellyes Skhiri](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/16/west-ham-eyeing-move-for-cologne-midfielder-ellyes-skhiri/) this summer as David Moyes looks to strengthen the squad.

The Hammes have been [linked](https://www.express.de/html/dumont-consent/index.html?param=eyJyZWRpcmVjdFVybCI6Ii9zcG9ydC9mdXNzYmFsbC8xLS1mYy1rb2Vsbi9mYy1taXR0ZWxmZWxkLWl0YWxpZW4tYXR0YWNrZS1hdWYtc2toaXJpLS0tdmllbGUtYW5mcmFnZW4tLWZ1ZXItb2V6Y2FuLTM4NDg0MTcyP2NiPTE2MjM4MjU2MTY2MDIiLCJyZWZlcnJlciI6IiIsInN1YmRvbWFpbiI6Ind3dyJ9) with the defensive midfielder recently and the 26-year-old has since handed in a transfer request according to a report from [Bild](https://www.bild.de/bild-plus/sport/fussball/fussball/1-fc-koeln-so-schwer-ist-der-job-von-steffen-baumgart-wirklich-76997708,view=conversionToLogin.bild.html).

Despite possessing Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and Mark Noble, the Irons are expected to bolster the [midfield department](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) as Moyes plans for a Europa League campaign.

Twitter account [West Ham Central](https://twitter.com/WestHam_Central/status/1414579780180234240) has taken a look at the statistics behind two of the key attributes for any defensive midfielder.

> Twitter: RT @WestHam\_Central: Very VERY intrigued by the links to Ellyes Skhiri. Midfielder in the Soucek mould, bloke is a machine. https://t.co/9H… (@WestHam\_Central)

Skhiri has earned [36 senior caps](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ellyes-skhiri/nationalmannschaft/spieler/290587/verein_id/3670) for Tunisia and added an impressive [203 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ellyes-skhiri/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/290587) at the domestic level for FC Koln and Montpellier respectively.

Last season the ace added [six goals and three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ellyes-skhiri/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/290587) to an impressive all-around campaign in 34 Bundesliga outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Clearly, Skhiri possesses [two crucial qualities](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/238903/Show/Ellyes-Skhiri) to shine in the defensive midfield role, whilst also adding goal contributions.

Valued at £9million and under contract until 2023 in Germany ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ellyes-skhiri/marktwertverlauf/spieler/290587)), West Ham are [expected to pay £20million](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/west-ham-eyeing-move-bundesliga-midfielder-who-tormented-dortmund) for the Tunisian ace.

Rice and Soucek were [near ever-presents last season](https://talksport.com/football/846100/west-ham-declan-rice-tomas-soucek-worth-lorry-limbs/) and will need additional help this term, something Skhiri could certainly provide in abundance.
