# Virals: West Ham have entered negotiations to sign Alphonse Areola

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/13/virals-west-ham-twitter-account-shares-reported-targets-impressive-stats/) have reportedly ‘entered negotiations’ to sign Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper [Alphonse Areola](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/09/virals-west-ham-finalising-a-loan-deal-for-alphonse-areola/) on loan.

The Hammers are have recently been [linked](https://sportwitness.co.uk/west-ham-want-close-deal-coming-days-player-expected-join-hammers-loan-option-buy/) with a move to take the 28-year-old on a temporary basis with an option to buy at the end.

Now a fresh report from French outlet [L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/west-ham-contacted-club-sign-player-hammers-hope-find-solution-quickly-transfer/)), as cited by [West Ham Gossip](https://twitter.com/westham_gossip/status/1414865234527928323) on Twitter has claimed the talks are being held.

The report claims that whilst the Ligue 1 giants ‘would prefer a sale’ from the outset, there remains hope a solution can be found regarding the [three-times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alphonse-areola/nationalmannschaft/spieler/120629/verein_id/3377) Frenchman.

Areola spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan with a relegated Fulham side – earning an average [Sofascore rating of 6.94](https://www.sofascore.com/player/alphonse-areola/96531) in 36 Premier League outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £15.3million and under contract until 2023 at Le Parc des Princes ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alphonse-areola/marktwertverlauf/spieler/120629)), signing the stopper this summer would likely be an expensive outlay for the Irons.

Given the [overriding need](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/transfer-news/) for defensive, midfield and attacking reinforcements at the London Stadium, David Moyes would surely be reticent to sanction big-money expenditure on a goalkeeper.

Albeit little doubt that Areola is a [top-class](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/92516/Show/Alphonse-Areola) operator, anything other than a loan move seems unlikely at this stage.
