# Virals: West Ham ‘finalising a loan deal’ for Alphonse Areola

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/09/virals-west-ham-expected-to-make-bid-for-paul-onuachu/) are believed to be in the process of finalising a loan deal to sign Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper [Alphonse Areola](https://readwestham.com/2021/04/28/virals-david-moyes-and-lukasz-fabianski-claim-awards/).

David Moyes has been steadfast on adding a goalkeeper to the [ranks](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) this summer in order to compete with Lukasz Fabianski and Darren Randolph.

Widely [linked](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/west-ham-readying-bid-tottenham-sam-johnstone-transfer) with West Brom ace Sam Johnstone, it seems the Hammers have instead opted to loan the 28-year-old Frenchman.

This is according to a report from Italian outlet [Foot Mercato](https://www.footmercato.net/a7394037173702861266-psg-une-porte-de-sortie-souvre-pour-alphonse-areola), as cited by [Football Transfers](https://twitter.com/Transferzone00/status/1413480371413413889) on Twitter.

Despite ultimately suffering relegation whilst on loan at Fulham last season, Areola earned an impressive average[6.94 Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/alphonse-areola/96531) in 38 Premier League outings.

[Hailed](https://www.bt.com/sport/news/2021/february/fulham-boss-scott-parker-backs-alphonse-areola-for-france-recall) as ‘fantastic’ by Scott Parker following a run of stellar displays in an otherwise disappointing campaign, the Frenchman certainly looks to be up to Premier League level.

Capped on [three occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alphonse-areola/nationalmannschaft/spieler/120629/verein_id/3377) by France at senior level, the Paris-born [World Cup winner](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alphonse-areola/erfolge/spieler/120629) faced fierce competition in the capital after the Ligue 1 giants [added Gianluigi Donnarumma](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jun/16/gianluigi-donnarumma-joins-psg-as-gianluigi-buffon-goes-back-to-parma) to Kaylor Navas in the goalkeeper department.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing a new stopper has certainly seemed a priority this summer for the Irons.

Valued at £15.3million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alphonse-areola/marktwertverlauf/spieler/120629)) and having given a great account of himself last season, the Frenchman will likely fancy his chances of ousting Fabianski should he indeed arrive in east London.

With Randolph and David Martin also waiting in the wings, the latter recently [signing a new deal](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/june/14-june/david-martin-extends-contract-west-ham-united#:~:text=West%20Ham%20United%20is%20pleased,contract%20extension%20until%20June%202022.), perhaps Randolph may look to move onto pastures new.
