[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/07/virals-west-ham-reportedly-show-interest-in-unsettled-danny-ings/) are believed to be ‘monitoring’ Bologna defender [Takehiro Tomiyasu](https://readwestham.com/2020/09/07/west-ham-plot-move-for-takehiro-tomiyasu/) ahead of a potential summer transfer.

The 22-year-old Japanese international has also been [heavily linked](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/tottenham-japan-defender-takehiro-tomiyasu-signing-close) with London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and fellow Premier League side Everton.

Hammers’ boss David Moyes is in the market for a central defender after [Fabian Balbuena left the club](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/june/04-june/retained-list-issued-fabian-balbuena-depart#:~:text=West%20Ham%20United%20has%20issued,the%20Hammers%2C%20scoring%20three%20goals.) as a free agent.

Previous [reports](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/tottenham-japan-defender-takehiro-tomiyasu-signing-close) have claimed it would take an offer in the region of €25million (£21.4million) to make a deal a reality.

Signed for £6.3million from Belgian club Sint-Truiden in 2019 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/takehiro-tomiyasu/transfers/spieler/331560)), the versatile defender has gone on to make [63 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/takehiro-tomiyasu/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/331560) for the Serie A outfit.

Last season the [23-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/takehiro-tomiyasu/nationalmannschaft/spieler/331560/verein_id/3435) star played [31 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/takehiro-tomiyasu/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/331560/plus/0/saison/2020/wettbewerb/IT1/verein/1025) in the league, earning an average [Sofascore rating of 6.86](https://www.sofascore.com/player/tomiyasu-takehiro/804434) in the process.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £18million and under contract in Italy until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/takehiro-tomiyasu/marktwertverlauf/spieler/331560)), signing the Japanese ace would represent a large outlay from the budget.

Equally [adept](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/takehiro-tomiyasu/leistungsdaten/spieler/331560) at centre-back or right-back, Tomiyasu would offer excellent versatility to Moyes’ squad.

Furthermore, beating two [Premier League rivals](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) to a signing would be another feather in the cap of the Irons.
