# Chris Sutton lauds ‘exceptional’ Declan Rice Euro displays

Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton has lauded [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/02/virals-manchester-united-could-be-forced-to-sell-jesse-lingard/) star [Declan Rice](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/04/virals-declan-rice-asks-why-always-me-after-brutal-goal-celebration/) on Twitter after yet another stellar performance for England at EURO 2020.

The 22-year-old central midfielder was at the forefront once again as the Three Lions brushed past Ukraine [4-0](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51198691) in Rome to reach the semi-finals.

Despite starting the match at [risk of suspension](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9751161/Gareth-Southgate-reveals-NOT-rest-players-risk-suspension-Euro-2020-tie-Ukraine.html), Rice was on fine form as Gareth Southgate’s men proved too strong for their Eastern European counterparts.

After the match, Sutton took to [social media](https://twitter.com/chris_sutton73/status/1411418719910301699?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1411418719910301699%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.hammers.news%2Fnews%2Fchris-sutton-blown-away-by-exceptional-declan-rice%2F) to praise the Londoner for his tournament showing so far.

Following on from a superb Premier League campaign with the Hammers, Rice has earned an average [Sofascore rating of 6.80](https://www.sofascore.com/player/declan-rice/856714) across the five matches.

This form comes amidst speculation the Irons’ future could once again lie away from the London Stadium as [reports](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9744883/Declan-Rice-puts-Manchester-United-Chelsea-alert-rejecting-TWO-West-Ham-contract-offers.html) claim the ace has rejected two offers of a new contract.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

West Ham fans have every right to be immensely proud of what [Rice has become](https://www.thefa.com/england/mens-seniors/stories/growing-up-declan-rice) and what he continues to achieve this summer.

Since starting life as a promising teenager when making a [debut](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/may/21-may/dream-come-true-declan-rice-made-his-west-ham-united-debut-day-2017) at 18 years old in a 2-1 win over Burnley at Turf Moor, the combative star has gone from strength to strength as a player and as a leader.

Irons fans will hope the journey has only just begun both for [England](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/nationalmannschaft/spieler/357662/verein_id/3299) and the Hammers.
