# Virals: West Ham offer contract to Nikola Maksimovic

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/30/virals-west-ham-in-talks-over-paul-onuachu-transfer/) are believed to have made an offer for Napoli defender [Nikola Maksimovic](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/10/west-ham-target-nikola-maksimovic-expected-to-leave-napoli-for-free/).

The 29-year-old Serbian international became [available on a free transfer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-maksimovic/profil/spieler/124715) today (June 30) after a contract with the Serie A club expired.

Therefore, the Hammers, along with [Premier League](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) rivals Crystal Palace as well as La Liga sides Real Betis and Sevilla are thought to have wasted little time in making their interest known.

This is according to Corriere Dello Sport journalist Antonio Giordano, [as quoted via Area Napoli](https://www.areanapoli.it/interviste/giordano-maksimovic-ha-un-rimpianto-il-prezzo-di-fabian-zuber-vice-insigne-vice-altro_423356.html) and as cited by [WHUNewz – West Ham News](https://twitter.com/WestHamUtdNewz) on Twitter.

Maksimovic, once [hailed](https://sempreinter.com/2021/04/27/ex-torino-coach-giampiero-ventura-napolis-nikola-maksimovic-would-be-great-signing-for-inter/) as ‘very important player’ by Ex-Torino Boss Giampiero Ventura, has been a [long-time target](https://www.calciomercato.it/2021/02/09/calciomercato-napoli-maksimovic-inter-milan/) of the Irons and this summer could finally see the deal become a reality.

During 2020/21, the [25-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-maksimovic/nationalmannschaft/spieler/124715/verein_id/3438) Serbia ace made [27 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-maksimovic/leistungsdaten/spieler/124715) across all competitions – earning a [Sofascore rating of 6.79](https://www.sofascore.com/player/nikola-maksimovic/68076) in 17 Serie A outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £9million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-maksimovic/marktwertverlauf/spieler/124715)), signing the centre-back for nothing would be a true bargain.

An experienced operator with vast European experience – including in the Europa League – the Serbian has been a [consistent performer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-maksimovic/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/124715) in Italy.

Should West Ham indeed win the battle, David Moyes may consider the defensive pursuit complete and turn attentions to a striker – a [search](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/transfer-news/west-ham-striker-transfer-window-19749082) that would be enhanced with the money saved in the budget.
