# Dean Windass urges West Ham to move for Ross Barkley this summer

Former Premier League striker Dean Windass has urged [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/28/virals-west-ham-target-jovane-cabral-made-available-this-summer/) to make a summer transfer swoop for Chelsea midfielder [Ross Barkley](https://readwestham.com/2020/11/24/ross-barkley-to-miss-aston-villa-trip-to-irons/).

This comes after a report from [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/04/09/ross-barkley-went-euros-hopeful-aston-villa-fringes/?utm_content=football&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1617963660) claimed the Hammers could be among the contenders to sign the England international after a loan spell at Aston Villa last term.

The 27-year-old has fallen way down the [pecking order at Stamford Bridge](https://www.chelseafc.com/en/teams/first-team?pageTab=players) and could be set to spend a second consecutive season away from the club.

Speaking to [Football FanCast](https://www.footballfancast.com/west-ham-united-news/exclusive-dean-windass-says-moyes-would-convince-barkley-to-join-west-ham-e140), Hull City legend Windass has pleaded with the Irons to make a move should Jesse Lingard be a no-go.

> Now Moyes has stayed, that could entice him. He would be a great fit for West Ham now Jesse Lingard’s probably not going to return – Ross is a number 10 in my opinion, so I think that would be a great fit for West Ham.

The initial report claims West Ham could be a viable option for the [ex-Everton man](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ross-barkley/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/131978) to complete another loan move.

During 2020/21 at Villa Park, the attacking midfielder, who was once [heralded](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/chelsea-fc-news/chelsea-frank-lampard-heaps-praise-on-first-class-ross-barkley/) as ‘first class’ by Frank Lampard, Barkley scored [four goals and made one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ross-barkley/leistungsdaten/spieler/131978) in 27 appearances across all competitions.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £18million and capped on 33 occasions by England ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ross-barkley/marktwertverlauf/spieler/131978)), the Liverpudlian certainly possess the qualities to succeed at the London Stadium.

Having already [revitalised one outcast international](https://theathletic.com/2365048/2021/02/04/jesse-lingard-west-ham-david-moyes/) star in Lingard, perhaps Barkley could be the next in line.

An [explosive operator](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/92547/Show/Ross-Barkley) from central midfield, signing the star would provide much-needed cover as well as a different option to Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and Mark Noble.
