# Virals: West Ham target Jesse Lingard set to be offered new contract

Major [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/26/virals-fabrizio-romano-names-west-ham-in-eddie-nketiah-pursuit/) summer target [Jesse Lingard](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/25/virals-west-ham-move-for-jesse-lingard-may-hinge-on-huge-transfer/) is reportedly set to be offered a new three-year deal by Manchester United.

The 28-year-old has one year to run on his existing contract at Old Trafford after the ace’s parent club [triggered an extension](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/12176332/jesse-lingards-manchester-united-contract-extended-by-one-year#:~:text=Jesse%20Lingard%20has%20had%20the,until%20the%20summer%20of%202022.) prior to the loan exit to the Hammers.

Lingard [arrived in east London](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/january/29-january/west-ham-united-sign-england-international-jesse-lingard-loan) on transfer deadline day and proved to be an instant hit for the Irons.

Manager David Moyes has previously [expressed a desire](https://talksport.com/football/885328/transfer-jesse-lingard-declan-rice-west-ham-europa-league/) to make the England man a permanent feature at the London Stadium.

However, according to a report from the [Daily Star](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/man-utd-transfer-news-lingard-24403847), as cited by [PF | Transfer News](https://twitter.com/PurelyFootball) on Twitter, West Ham could have their work cut out.

Lingard [scored nine times and registered five assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdaten/spieler/141660) in 16 Premier League appearances for the Hammers – helping inspire Europa League qualification.

That form earned the [29-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/nationalmannschaft/spieler/141660/verein_id/3299) attacking midfielder an England recall back in March before ultimately narrowly missing out on the Euro 2020 squad and an ‘amazing’ [tag](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/news/ferdinand-jesse-lingard-manchester-united-20236422) from Rio Ferdinand.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing Lingard was always likely to be a tough task this summer, despite the clear [turnaround in fortunes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/141660/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1).

Valued at £19.8million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/marktwertverlauf/spieler/141660)), Manchester United had placed a premium asking price on their star’s head on the back of a superb spell.

Victims of that successful stint, with Moyes likely to prioritise a centre-back and striker arrival, sanctioning a [£30million deal](https://www.90min.com/posts/manchester-united-set-asking-jesse-lingard-asking-price) for Lingard may prove difficult.
