# Virals: Fabrizio Romano names West Ham in Eddie Nketiah pursuit

Reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/25/virals-west-ham-serious-about-merih-demiral-pursuit/) are ‘seriously interested’ in young Arsenal forward [Eddie Nketiah](https://readwestham.com/2021/04/22/gabby-agbonlahor-says-west-ham-should-shy-away-from-eddie-nketiah/).

Previously [linked](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-transfer-news-eddie-nketiah-arsenal-fc-folarin-balogun-b929755.html) with the 22-year-old, the Hammers are believed to be competing with German giants Bayer Leverkusen for the striker.

The interest comes as Irons’ boss David Moyes continues the search for additional attaching options to bolster the department having [lost Sebastien Haller](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/12181609/ajax-trying-to-sign-sebastien-haller-from-west-ham#:~:text=West%20Ham%20have%20agreed%20to,in%20the%20summer%20of%202019.) in January.

According to Romano, speaking on the [Arsenal Lounge](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AtZsTFV5cI) podcast, as cited by [WHUNewz – West Ham News](https://twitter.com/WestHamUtdNewz/status/1408459863043215367) on Twitter, Nketiah is a leading contender.

The Italian also mentions a [new deal on the table](https://www.90min.com/posts/arsenal-offer-eddie-nketiah-new-contract) from the Gunners as well as interest from newly-promoted Watford, albeit the main two protagonists are the Hammers and Leverkusen.

A [prolific goalscorer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eddie-nketiah/nationalmannschaft/spieler/340324/verein_id/9565) at the international youth level for England, Nketiah [burst onto the scene](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/10/24/arsenal-2-norwich-1-eddie-nketiah-becomes-instant-hit-brace/) in north London with a brace on debut in the Carabao Cup in 2017.

Since then the London-born starlet has found chances hard to come by and has only managed [13 goals in 65 outings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eddie-nketiah/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/340324) for the club.

Last season the striker [hailed](https://metro.co.uk/2020/06/18/mikel-arteta-praises-extraordinary-eddie-nketiah-arsenals-defeat-manchester-city-12873619/) as ‘extraordinary’ by manager Mikel Arteta, scored [six times in 30 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eddie-nketiah/leistungsdaten/spieler/340324) across all competitions.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £14.4million and entering the final 12 months of a deal at the Emirates Stadium ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eddie-nketiah/marktwertverlauf/spieler/340324)), the Hammers could land themselves incredible value for money with Nketiah.

An unresolved contract situation should reduce a [previous asking price](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2021/05/16/arsenal-set-asking-price-for-youngster-eddie-nketiah/#:~:text=Eddie%20Nketiah%20could%20be%20set,degree%20of%20first%2Dteam%20experience.) of £19million and could play directly into West Ham’s favour.

Clearly a player with [plenty of potential](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/345845/Show/Eddie-Nketiah), Moyes would surely relish the opportunity of giving the young Englishman another chance to shine having stalled somewhat.
