# Virals: West Ham move for Jesse Lingard may hinge on huge transfer

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/24/virals-west-ham-make-first-offer-for-nikola-milenkovic/) could see their attempts to sign Manchester United ace [Jesse Lingard](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/21/noel-whelan-urges-west-ham-to-act-swiftly-in-move-for-jesse-lingard/) depend on another huge summer deal.

The Hammers are desperate to land the 28-year-old after a [sensational loan spell](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11096/12273193/jesse-lingard-in-scintillating-form-at-west-ham-after-loan-from-man-utd) during the second half of last term in east London.

Irons’ boss David Moyes has [expressed a desire](https://talksport.com/football/885328/transfer-jesse-lingard-declan-rice-west-ham-europa-league/) to land the attacking midfielder on a permanent basis, however, thus far any moves towards a permanent deal have proven fruitless.

Now, a fresh report from the [Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-transfer-latest-jesse-lingard-jadon-sancho-manchester-united-b942452.html), as cited by [West Ham Fan Zone](https://twitter.com/WHUFCFZ/status/1408082978782298118) on Twitter, has claimed the move could hinge on whether the Old Trafford club can sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

The report claims Lingard is tempted to remain at his [boyhood club](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/transfers/spieler/141660) and fight for a spot in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.

A proposed £73million ([The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jun/23/manchester-united-increase-offer-for-jadon-sancho-to-73m)) capture of Sancho would further block any route to regular action and could see the [29-cap England ace](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdaten/spieler/141660) opt to move on.

During a six month spell at the London Stadium, Lingard scored [nine times and added another five assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdaten/spieler/141660) in 16 Premier League outings – helping fire the Hammers to Europa League qualification.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

In many ways, the ace’s desire to compete for a [starting berth](https://www.manutd.com/en/players-and-staff/first-team) at Manchester United is commendable.

Despite being an [outcast](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/141660/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1) for the entire first half of the season, clearly, there’s new-found confidence that wants to prove a point.

From a West Ham perspective, Sancho signing for the Manchester club and Lingard pitching back up at West Ham would be the ideal scenario, albeit [the £30million asking price](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1420484/Man-Utd-news-Jesse-Lingard-transfer-West-Ham-latest-gossip) may increase in an attempt to recoup some of the expenditure.

Valued at £19.8million and with just 12 months remaining on a contract extension ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/marktwertverlauf/spieler/141660)), the Hammers would be rightly reticent to pay over the odds.
