# Virals: West Ham in ‘straight battle’ for Paul Onuachu

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/23/virals-felipe-anderson-offered-to-lazio-for-7million/) are reportedly keen on signing KRC Genk striker Paul Onuachu this summer as David Moyes goes in search of [squad](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/18/virals-mark-noble-calls-for-west-ham-squad-improvements/) reinforcements.

The Hammers face [Premier League](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) competition for the Nigerian and are said to be in a ‘straight battle’ with Brighton & Hove Albion for the 27-year-old.

This is according to a report from [OwnGoalNigeria](https://www.owngoalnigeria.com/2021/06/23/paul-onuachu-prime-to-complete-26m-transfer-to-english-premier-league-side/), as cited by [Sport Witness](https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness/status/1407702051937734657) on Twitter.

The report claims a switch to England would be a ‘dream move’ for the [former FC Midtjylland](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/paul-onuachu/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/272855) man and West Ham are currently in ‘pole’ position to land the £26million rated striker.

Capped [10 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/paul-onuachu/nationalmannschaft/spieler/272855/verein_id/3444) by Nigeria, Onuachu was in sublime form during 2020/21 – scoring [35 goals and registering another five assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/paul-onuachu/leistungsdaten/spieler/272855) in 41 outings.

Described as a [‘goal king’](https://www.msn.com/en-ae/sport/news/fashanu-genk-forward-onuachu-is-nigerias-new-goal-king/ar-BB1fcXQI?ocid=mailsignout&li=BBqrVLO) by former [Premier League forward](https://www.premierleague.com/players/604/John-Fashanu/stats) John Fashanu, the 6’6 ace has burst onto the scene in the last 18 months.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £18million and under contract in Belgium until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/paul-onuachu/marktwertverlauf/spieler/272855)), the mooted £26million price tag represents impressive value for money.

Adept in front of goal both [with feet and aerially](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/122182/Show/Paul-Onuachu), the Nigerian would provide an impressive foil for Michail Antonio whilst also being capable of operating as a lone frontman.

Currently unknown to the league, Onuachu would likely [relish the opportunity](https://sportwitness.co.uk/arsenal-dream-club-player-makes-clear-wants-gunners-move/) to ruffle a few feathers amongst the elite.
