# Pundits wax lyrical over West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek

Former Premier League stars Roy Keane and Ian Wright have been waxing lyrical about [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/22/virals-west-ham-locked-in-battle-for-goalkeeper-bartlomiej-dragowski/) midfielder [Tomas Soucek](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/09/punditry-duo-agree-on-declan-rices-england-role/).

During coverage of England’s [1-0 victory](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51198446) in the final group game against the Czech Republic on Tuesday evening, the 26-year-old ace was the talk of the studio.

Keane and Wright, who have [579 Premier League appearances](https://www.premierleague.com/players/29/Ian-Wright/stats) between them, were speaking on[ITV](https://www.itv.com/hub/itv) \[22 June\] ahead of the clash and the Irishman, in particular, was full of praise for the Irons’ enforcer.

> He is a hell of a player, a proper old-fashioned, box-to-box midfielder. He’s got a goal in him and he’s had a good season at West Ham. I bet David Moyes is delighted with him. He’s very good at attacking the ball and getting goals but also at set-pieces, he is an excellent player and a good old-fashioned central midfielder, I love to see it.

Wright, a [former England striker](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ian-wright/nationalmannschaft/spieler/104637/verein_id/3299), hailed Soucek’s stamina and energy as ‘unbelievable’.

The Czech ace played all 90 minutes against the Three Lions, winning five out of nine duels on the night in a display that earned a [6.80 Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/tomas-soucek/799041).

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

[Signing Soucek](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12035297/west-ham-sign-tomas-soucek-from-slavia-prague-on-four-year-deal) has to be regarded as one of the best pieces of business in recent times at West Ham.

A driving force [alongside Declan Rice](https://talksport.com/football/846100/west-ham-declan-rice-tomas-soucek-worth-lorry-limbs/) in midfield, the defensive-minded ace has also shown a penchant for scoring big goals during his time in east London.

Both Soucek and Vladimir Coufal are likely to be in action once again having [finished third](https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro-2020/standings/) in Group D.
