# Virals: West Ham reportedly make loan offer for Giovanni Simeone

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/21/virals-west-ham-have-reported-jovane-cabral-bid-rejected/) are reportedly interested in signing Cagliari striker [Giovanni Simeone](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/05/fabrizio-romano-explains-why-giovanni-simeone-west-ham-loan-move-collapsed/) on a loan to buy deal.

The 25-year-old Argentinian has [previously been mentioned](https://www.patreon.com/herewegopodcast) as a potential target for the Hammers and could be among the targets once again this summer.

Irons’ boss David Moyes is certainly in the market for a new centre-forward ahead of the 2021/22 campaign having [allowed Sebastien Haller to leave](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jan/08/west-ham-sell-sebastien-haller-to-ajax-at-25m-loss) the club in January.

According to a report from Italian outlet [Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/cagliari-un-club-inglese-su-simeone-c-e-l-offerta-75738), as cited by [West Ham Fan Zone](https://twitter.com/WestHamViews_/status/1406966224714711048) on Twitter, the east Londoners have already made their first move.

Simeone, son of Atletico Madrid manager Diego, has earned [five senior caps](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/giovanni-simeone/nationalmannschaft/spieler/282388/verein_id/3437) for Argentina.

Despite operating as a central striker, the frontman only managed [six goals and two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/giovanni-simeone/leistungsdaten/spieler/282388) in 33 Serie A appearances last term – earning an average [Sofascore rating of 6.74](https://www.sofascore.com/player/giovanni-simeone/341143) along the way.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing a striker is [certainly a priority](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/news/david-moyes-west-ham-striker-20213339) at the London Stadium this summer, however, Simeone may not be the ideal candidate.

Far from a prolific goalscorer, the Argentinian instead plays in a [similar mould](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/133839/Show/Giovanni-Simeone) to Michail Antonio.

That’s not to suggest the [£9.9million](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/giovanni-simeone/marktwertverlauf/spieler/282388) valued acquisition wouldn’t be a worthwhile one – perhaps just not as the out and out scorer the Hammers need.
