# Virals: AC Milan ‘trying’ to sign West Ham defender Issa Diop

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/22/virals-west-ham-reportedly-make-loan-offer-for-giovanni-simeone/) central defender [Issa Diop](https://readwestham.com/2021/02/12/west-ham-fans-diop-ogbonna-injury-update/) has emerged as a target for AC Milan this summer.

The Serie A and [European giants](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ac-mailand/erfolge/verein/5) are believed to have initiated talks with the Frenchman’s entourage in recent weeks with a view to making a permanent offer.

This comes after the 24-year-old seemingly [fell out of favour](https://www.football365.com/news/transfers-liverpool-west-ham-centre-back-issa-diop) at the London Stadium under manager David Moyes.

Now, according to [Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Salvatore Cantone](https://twitter.com/sa_cantone), as cited by [Westham\_hub](https://twitter.com/westham_hub/status/1406942624855035904) on Twitter, the Rossoneri are keen on taking the Hammer.

The initial report claims that despite signing Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea on a permanent basis, the San Siro club are [fearful of losing Alessio Romagnoli](https://www.pianetamilan.it/calciomercato/news-calciomercato/calciomercato-milan-via-romagnoli-maldini-ha-il-sostituito-pm-news/) this summer and could sign Diop as a replacement.

Highly rated by many and [hailed](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-monster-issa-diop-vows-to-get-even-more-scary-after-jose-mourinho-praise-a3949976.html) a ‘monster by Jose Mourinho, the French youth international only made [21 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/issa-diop/leistungsdaten/spieler/272622) across all competitions last term – albeit [five games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/issa-diop/verletzungen/spieler/272622) were missed with injury.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £16.2million and under contract in east London until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/issa-diop/marktwertverlauf/spieler/272622)), West Ham certainly hold all the cards when it comes to the Frenchman’s future.

Given Moyes’ desire to use other options and the potential of a [new central defensive arrival](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/james-tarkowski-pushing-for-west-ham-transfer) this summer, perhaps the Irons could cash in on Diop this time around.
