# Virals: West Ham ‘considering’ Odsonne Edouard swoop

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/21/frank-mcavennie-claims-west-ham-should-sell-andriy-yarmolenko/) could make a sensational attempt to sign Celtic striker [Odsonne Edouard](https://readwestham.com/2021/04/26/paul-robinson-believes-top-player-odsonne-edouard-is-suited-to-epl/) after Premier League rivals landed their man.

Previously [linked](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/west-ham-transfer-news-hammers-leading-race-to-sign-odsonne-edouard) with the Hammers, the door is believed to have opened once again after favourites for the Frenchman, Leicester City, closed in on the signing of another [reported](https://www.football365.com/news/west-ham-favourites-sign-liverpool-target-patson-daka) Irons target, Patson Daka.

The 22-year-old Zambian forward is [reportedly](https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/what-patson-daka-signing-means-5551267) on the verge of a switch to the Foxes from Red Bull Salzburg, clearing the path to Edouard.

This is according to a report from [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-door-opens-for-west-ham-to-sign-edouard-after-source-reveals-latest-twist/), as highlighted by [West Ham Fan Zone](https://twitter.com/WHUFCFZ/status/1406609336298885121) on Twitter.

The report claims Leicester are not expected to sign two big-money strikers this window – making Daka the [most likely](https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/leicester-city-transfers-daka-patson-5543433) arrival.

Despite ending a difficult campaign in 2020/21, 23-year-old Edouard topped the Hoops’ scoring charts with [22 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/leistungsdaten/spieler/344152) in 40 appearances.

Surprisingly, that figure is down on previous returns as the France youth international has notched [83 goals and registered 37 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/344152) in 168 appearances north of the border.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing a striker capable of operating as a lone frontman and supporting Michail Antonio is an [absolute necessity](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/news/david-moyes-west-ham-striker-20213339) this summer.

David Moyes made the call not to [replace Sebastien Haller](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jan/08/west-ham-sell-sebastien-haller-to-ajax-at-25m-loss#:~:text=West%20Ham's%20need%20for%20a,senior%20forward%20at%20his%20disposal.) in January, a decision that looked to be a risk when Antonio went down injured during the Premier League run-in.

Valued at £13.5million and under contract at Parkhead until 2022 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/marktwertverlauf/spieler/344152)), previous [reports](https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/odsonne-edouard-leicester-city-transfer-5003147) have claimed Edouard could be available for around £15million this summer – a snip for a proven goalscorer.
