# Virals: West Ham preparing for ‘imminent’ Duje Caleta-Car bid

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/14/rio-ferdinand-lauds-declan-rice-after-opening-england-display/) are believed to be preparing an offer for Marseille central defender [Duje Caleta-Car](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/30/virals-west-ham-reportedly-set-to-return-for-duje-caleta-car/).

[Originally linked](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/oct/03/marseille-defender-duje-caleta-car-west-ham-david-moyes-premier-league) last summer, the Hammers have seemingly earmarked the 24-year-old Croatian once again as a potential target to replace the outgoing Fabian Balbuena.

Now, a fresh report from French outlet [Foot Mercato](https://www.footmercato.net/a1249122568801066054-om-ou-en-est-le-degraissage-xxl), as cited by [West Ham Fan Zone](https://twitter.com/WHUFCFZ/status/1403846312395739137) on Twitter, claims the Irons are readying a bid for the defender.

Currently with the Croatia squad, the [15-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/duje-caleta-car/nationalmannschaft/spieler/238266/verein_id/3556) ace featured against England and Declan Rice on Sunday – [impressing the Hammers](https://twitter.com/WHUFCFZ/status/1404374955152883716) faithful with his display.

During 2020/21, Caleta-Car made [39 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/duje-caleta-car/leistungsdaten/spieler/238266) for Marseille in all competitions – earning an average [Sofascore rating of 6.92](https://www.sofascore.com/player/duje-caleta-car/257091) in 33 Ligue 1 outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing the Croatian for anything like the mooted £12.8millon would be an astonishing piece of business.

Valued at a rising £22.5million and with a contract until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/duje-caleta-car/marktwertverlauf/spieler/238266)), Hammers boss David Moyes would be landing a huge prospect at a bargain fee.

Credited with impressive [concentration and aerial](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/251134/Show/Duje-Caleta-Car) attributes, the 6’3 ace would offer an additional threat from attacking set plays.
