# Virals: West Ham lead the race for Adam Armstrong signing

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/14/rio-ferdinand-lauds-declan-rice-after-opening-england-display/) are believed to be at the front of the queue for Blackburn Rovers striker [Adam Armstrong](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/07/brian-deane-backs-west-ham-to-sign-adam-armstrong/) this summer.

The Hammers have been [touted with an interest](https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/transfer-news/blackburn-rovers-armstrong-west-ham-19907661) in the 24-year-old since Sebastien Haller left the London Stadium in January.

Having [failed to earn promotion](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/table) from the Championship, the frontman is hot property and David Moyes could face competition from Newcastle United, Southampton, Fulham and recently promoted Norwich City.

However, according to a report from the [Lancashire Telegraph](https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/19368068.latest-interest-blackburn-rovers-top-scorer-adam-armstrong/), as cited by [West Ham Fan Zone](https://twitter.com/WHUFCFZ/status/1403845796487892995) on Twitter, the east London club could be leading the way.

The report alludes to a standoff between the clubs regarding Blackburn’s £20million demands for their prolific striker – perhaps with a [sell-on clause](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-would-cash-adam-armstrong-19304918) to former club Newcastle in mind.

A former England youth international, Armstrong, [hailed](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/tony-mowbray-full-of-praise-for-dynamic-blackburn-striker-adam-armstrong-1604773859000) as ‘dynamic’ by Tony Mowbray, enjoyed a superb 2020/21 campaign scoring [29 goals and adding five assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adam-armstrong/leistungsdaten/spieler/250426) in 43 appearances.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing a striker this summer is perhaps the most important player arrival West Ham will make.

Heavily reliant on an [injury-prone](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michail-antonio/verletzungen/spieler/104124) Michail Antonio for the run-in, Moyes needs at least one additional option in the ranks.
