# Virals: West Ham hold major advantage in Junior Firpo pursuit

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/11/virals-west-ham-to-closely-follow-attila-szalai-at-euro-2020/) could hold a major advantage in the race to sign [Junior Firpo](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/02/virals-west-ham-in-talks-over-junior-firpo-transfer/) from Barcelona this summer.

Facing competition for the attacking full-back from Serie A giants AC Milan, there had been an [expectancy](https://milanreports.com/2021/06/10/barcelona-junior-firpo-ac-milan-swap/) the Hammers may miss out on the 24-year-old.

However, according to a fresh report from [Calcio Mercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/milan-incontro-con-l-agente-di-junior-firpo-la-situazione-47303), as cited by [footballitalia](https://twitter.com/footballitalia/status/1403089718733066249) on Twitter, David Moyes’ side may yet be at the front of the queue.

The report claims that Milan’s [desire to secure a loan move](https://sempremilan.com/cm-milan-meet-intermediary-of-barcelona-full-back-but-are-only-interested-in-loan-deal) and West Ham’s capability to land a permanent deal means the east Londoners are very much still in the hunt.

Signed from Real Betis in 2019 for £27.5million ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49226799)), Firpo has struggled to make have the desired impact at the Camp Nou.

During the 2020/21 campaign, the [Spanish youth international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/junior-firpo/nationalmannschaft/spieler/374139/verein_id/15232) made [18 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/junior-firpo/leistungsdaten/spieler/374139) across all competitions.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Once topping a £22.5million market value, the Dominican Republic born left-back has seen a dramatic decline to just £7.2million in recent months ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/junior-firpo/marktwertverlauf/spieler/374139)).

Irons’ boss David Moyes seems [steadfast on signing](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12309377/west-ham-the-summer-transfer-window-and-what-they-need-to-do) at worst an understudy for Aaron Cresswell this summer – perhaps with a view to replacing the 31-year-old long term.

Firpo would be an exciting addition to the [squad](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) at the London Stadium and one the Hammers hierarchy should be going all out to bring in.
