# West Ham interested in Slavia Prague defender David Zima

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/09/stuart-pearce-lauds-declan-rices-leadership-credentials/) are believed to be preparing yet another Czech raid – this time for Slavia Prague defender David Zima.

Having previously signed [Tomas Soucek](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/27/gary-neville-lauds-quality-west-ham-central-midfield-duo/) and Vladimir Coufal from the nation’s [top-flight champions](https://uk.soccerway.com/national/czech-republic/czech-liga/20202021/regular-season/r59164/), the Hammers could be set to return for the third time.

This is according to a report from [The Athletic](https://cdn.theathletic.com/app/uploads/2021/06/08191348/TheAthletic_TheRadar_Final_PP_20MB_08.pdf), as cited by [West Ham Fan Zone](https://twitter.com/WHUFCFZ/status/1402627069691973633) on Twitter, claiming Irons have been scouting the 20-year-old and could act on their interest.

Named as part of the [Czech Republic squad](https://www.skysports.com/football/teams/czech-republic/squad) at Euro 2020, it’s claimed Zima would be open to a switch to either the Premier League or La Liga.

Capped [just once](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-zima/nationalmannschaft/spieler/544149/verein_id/3445) at the senior international level, the 6ft 3in ace made [35 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-zima/leistungsdaten/spieler/544149) across all competitions during 2020/21 for the capital club.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £6.75million and under contract until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-zima/marktwertverlauf/spieler/544149)), prizing Zima away could be an expensive outlay for West Ham, despite the youngster’s tender age.

Given his relative [inexperience](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-zima/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/544149) at anything resembling the top level, David Moyes would surely be reticent to offer the required guarantees over game-time.

Already boasting Craig Dawson, Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna, Winston Reid and fellow hot prospect Frederik Alves, the London Stadium [squad](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) isn’t short on centre-back options.

That said, the [success](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/may/11-may/tomas-soucek-and-vladimir-coufal-earn-jamie-carragher-praise-sky) of both Soucek and Coufal in east London could perhaps sway the Irons into taking the gamble on what could be another star in the making.
