# Virals: West Ham could reignite interest in Hans Vanaken

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/10/west-ham-interested-in-slavia-prague-defender-david-zima/) are believed to be contemplating whether to reignite an interest in Belgian midfielder [Hans Vanaken](https://readwestham.com/2020/12/21/west-ham-interested-in-club-brugge-midfielder-hans-vanaken/) this summer.

This comes after the Hammers were [linked](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/belgium-star-explains-decision-reject-22826672) with the 28-year-old last summer – with the Club Brugge star revealing he rejected a move to the London Stadium as he did not see the move as a ‘logical step’.

Instead, Vanaken opted to stay in Belgium in order to ‘play for trophies’, justified by [winning the Jupiler Pro League](https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sports/club-brugge-clinch-belgian-title-2021-05-20/) comfortably in 2020/21.

According to [Voetbal24](https://www.voetbal24.be/news/70582/pech-voor-club-brugge-transfersom-vanaken-valt-veel-lager-uit-dan-verwacht), as cited by [Sport Witness](https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness/status/1402634536635318279) on Twitter, West Ham could make another attempt to land the 6’4 attacking midfielder in the coming weeks.

The report claims that the east Londoners were open to paying £13million in order to sign the [10-cap Belgium man](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hans-vanaken/nationalmannschaft/spieler/137576/verein_id/3382) last summer.

Following the decision to stay at Brugge, Vanaken enjoyed a stellar campaign scoring [16 goals and registering seven assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hans-vanaken/leistungsdaten/spieler/137576) in 45 appearances across all competitions.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

On the back of a superb season, valued at £11.7million and under contract until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hans-vanaken/marktwertverlauf/spieler/137576)), signing the Belgian would be an expensive outlay for the Hammers.

David Moyes will certainly be on the lookout for [additional midfield options](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad), in particular, should Manuel Lanzini leave the club as expected.

Once [described](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7886375/Mignolet-claims-two-Club-Brugge-players-better-finishers-Firmino.html) as a ‘better finisher’ than Liverpool star Roberto Firmino and on a ‘comparable level’ to Mohamed Salah by compatriot Simon Mignolet, Vanaken would certainly offer another goalscoring threat from midfield alongside Soucek.
