# Brian Deane backs West Ham to sign Adam Armstrong

Former Premier League striker Brian Deane has backed [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/06/matthew-upson-urges-west-ham-to-go-all-out-for-jesse-lingard/) to sign Blackburn Rovers ace [Adam Armstrong](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/10/glowing-joe-cole-quotes-on-target-adam-armstrong-from-2015-emerge/) this summer.

This comes after the widely linked Ivan Toney earned promotion to the top-flight with Brentford – making any move for the [33-goal sensation](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ivan-toney/leistungsdaten/spieler/251664) a difficult one.

The west London side’s [play-off success](https://www.brentfordfc.com/news/2021/may/play-off-final-result/#:~:text=Brentford%20have%20been%20promoted%20to,first%20half%20at%20Wembley%20Stadium.) could see the Hammers look elsewhere to resolve their pursuit of a recognised frontman.

Deane, an ex-Iron of [28 outings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/brian-deane/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/8058), told [This Is Futbol](https://thisisfutbol.com/2021/06/blogs/premier-league/west-ham/exclusive-deane-thinks-armstrong-could-be-a-possible-toney-alternative-for-west-ham-transfers-rumour-ivan-toney-brentford-e138/) that David Moyes should shift his focus to another prolific second-tier ace.

> You can go into the Championship and get good players. Look at Ivan Toney who’s just come up with Brentford. Certainly, I think you can get value in the Championship. Adam Armstrong, we haven’t had supporters in the grounds and they \[Blackburn\] need to kind of strengthen their squad. So that \[selling the player to West Ham\] may be a way of doing it and then getting the next Adam Armstrong.

The 24-year-old finished five goals behind Toney in the [league’s scoring charts](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/top-scorers) with 28 strikes from 40 outings – also adding five assists.

Formerly of Newcastle United as a youngster, Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has [spoken](https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/19288895.tony-mowbray-says-adam-armstrong-interest-out-control/) of the interest in the striker he [described](https://www.bt.com/sport/news/2021/april/tony-mowbray-heaps-praise-on-brilliant-hat-trick-hero-adam-armstrong) as ‘brilliant’ following a hat-trick.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing Armstrong would certainly be a coup for West Ham with newly-promoted Norwich City showing an interest and Newcastle United also [keen](https://twnews.co.uk/gb-news/norwich-city-join-newcastle-united-and-west-ham-in-transfer-race-for-rovers-star-adam-armstrong) on making a return a possibility.

Valued at £14.4million (Transfermarkt), a recent report from [Lancs Live](https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/transfer-news/blackburn-rovers-adam-armstrong-transfer-20730613) has claimed the Lancashire club will be looking for a fee in the region of £20million for the man [under contract until 2022](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adam-armstrong/profil/spieler/250426) at Ewood Park.

Credit to the [England youth international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adam-armstrong/nationalmannschaft/spieler/250426/verein_id/9565), his [goal-scoring record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adam-armstrong/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/250426) has remained impressive throughout his career to date.

Perhaps lacking the [other qualities](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/69517/Show/Michail-Antonio) the likes of Michail Antonio brings to the side, Armstrong’s seemingly [unerring ability to finish chances](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHO_hq8w6JY) is something that would certainly benefit Moyes’ side.
