# Virals: West Ham join the race for Burnley striker Chris Wood

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/04/journalist-david-hughes-tips-west-ham-for-alex-oxlade-chamberlain-deal/) have reportedly entered the race to sign Burnley striker [Chris Wood](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/16/trevor-sinclair-believes-chris-wood-would-be-a-great-fit-for-west-ham/) this summer.

The Hammers are joined by fellow [Premier League](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) sides Everton and Aston Villa in the pursuit of the 29-year-old.

This is according to a fresh report from [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-everton-and-west-ham-race-villa-to-sign-wood-and-this-is-what-moyes-thinks-of-him/), as cited by [West Ham News & Views](https://twitter.com/WestHamViews_/status/1400741874739167232) on Twitter.

The report claims that Hammers boss David Moyes is a ‘big admirer’ of the New Zealand international’s physicality, [finishing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEMvRp6yO4Y) and ability to lead the line as a focal point.

In 2020/21, Wood netted [12 goals in 34 league outings](https://www.premierleague.com/players/3756/Chris-Wood/overview) – reaching double figures for the fourth consecutive campaign.

Described as [‘horrible to play against’](https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/football-news/rise-burnleys-chris-wood-striker-19117432) by all-time Premier League top goalscorer, Alan Shearer, the 6’3 frontman [possesses all the attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/73380/Show/Chris-Wood) required as a target man.

Capped [56 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/chris-wood/nationalmannschaft/spieler/108725/verein_id/9171) by New Zealand and with over [400 senior first-team appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/chris-wood/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/108725) in England, Wood has a wealth of experience and would offer David Moyes a readymade option.

Valued at £7.2million and under contract at Turf Moor until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/chris-wood/marktwertverlauf/spieler/108725)), the report claims the Clarets will demand a fee in the region of £30million for the Kiwi.

That fee seems excessive for a 29-year-old with little to no resale value – potentially a stumbling block for the Irons’ interest.
