# Virals: West Ham reportedly set to return for Duje Caleta-Car

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/29/virals-west-ham-favourites-to-sign-patson-daka/) are reportedly set to reignite their interest in Marseille defender [Duje Ćaleta-Car](https://readwestham.com/2020/10/27/reported-west-ham-target-confirms-premier-league-interest/) this summer.

Having made a last-ditch [attempt](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/oct/03/marseille-defender-duje-caleta-car-west-ham-david-moyes-premier-league) to land the Croatian centre-back in October, Caleta-Car was subject to major interest from Liverpool in January – only for the Ligue 1 club to rebuff the approach.

The 24-year-old was [believed](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1391822/Liverpool-transfer-news-Duje-Caleta-Car-Ozan-Kaban) to be ‘devastated’ at the breakdown in a switch to Anfield, a move that now looks to be off the cards after Jurgen Klopp’s side completed the transfer of Ibrahima Konate on Friday.

Now, according to a fresh report from [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2599947/2021/05/29/microwave-meals-cotton-eye-joe-and-plenty-of-shouting-how-david-moyes-led-west-ham-back-to-europe/), as cited by [West Ham Fan Zone](https://twitter.com/WHUFCFZ/status/1398659025907163141) on Twitter, the Hammers could make their interest heard once again.

This season Caleta-Car [scored twice](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/duje-caleta-car/leistungsdaten/spieler/238266) in 39 appearances across all competitions – earning an average [Sofascore rating of 6.92](https://www.sofascore.com/player/duje-caleta-car/257091) in 33 Ligue 1 outings.

Capped on [12 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/duje-caleta-car/nationalmannschaft/spieler/238266/verein_id/3556) by Croatia, the [£22.5million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/duje-caleta-car/marktwertverlauf/spieler/238266) ace was recently named in Zlatko Dalić’s [squad](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/croatia-euro-2020-squad-the-complete-line-up-for-marchs-internationals) for the upcoming Euro 2020 competition.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

The report claims Fabian Balbuena will leave the London Stadium in the coming weeks when the Paraguayan’s [contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fabian-balbuena/profil/spieler/285548) expires.

This would leave space for at least one additional central defender in David Moyes’ [squad](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) – especially should Frederik Alves’ leave on loan as expected.
