# Virals: West Ham reportedly open new contract talks with Vladimir Coufal

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/25/virals-west-ham-confirm-thierry-nevers-signing/) are believed to be starting negotiations with [Vladimir Coufal](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/10/virals-roshane-thomas-spots-telling-moment-after-90-minutes/) over a new contract.

The 28-year-old has been a revelation since arriving for £5million from Slavia Prague in October ([The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/oct/02/west-ham-sign-vladimir-coufal-from-slavia-prague-5m-transfer-news)).

Despite making a debut season [outside](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vladimir-coufal/transfers/spieler/157672) of the Czech Republic, the powerful right-back earned an impressive average [Sofascore rating of 7.01](https://www.sofascore.com/player/vladimir-coufal/138024) from 34 Premier League outings.

Currently [under contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vladimir-coufal/profil/spieler/157672) until 2023, according to [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12316741/west-ham-keen-on-spartak-moscow-midfielder-alex-kral-vladimir-coufal-contract-talks-opened), as cited by [Football London](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/transfer-news/west-ham-alex-kral-transfer-20675576) and [West Ham United News](https://twitter.com/WestHam_fl/status/1397251118770622467) on Twitter, the Hammers are keen to tie their man down.

The same initial report claims the Irons are among five Premier League clubs chasing Spartak Moscow midfielder Alex Kral – another [compatriot](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-kral/nationalmannschaft/spieler/337333/verein_id/3445) of Coufal and Tomas Soucek.

Kral, a 23-year-old central midfielder, played [30 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-kral/leistungsdaten/spieler/337333) this season for Spartak.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Coufal richly deserves a new deal, of that there is no doubt.

Nobody could’ve predicted the right-back would’ve hit the ground running as he did – especially given the lack of experience outside of his homeland.

The [13-cap ace](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vladimir-coufal/nationalmannschaft/spieler/157672/verein_id/3445) has been truly sensational and recently [earned high praise](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/news/carragher-vladimir-coufal-west-ham-20673962) whilst being named in Jamie Carragher’s team of the season.

As for Kral, adding a central midfielder to the ranks is a must this summer to offer a helping hand to the [hard-worked Declan Rice and Soucek](https://talksport.com/football/846100/west-ham-declan-rice-tomas-soucek-worth-lorry-limbs/).
