# Virals: West Ham reportedly in the race to sign Matheus Pereira

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/26/virals-west-ham-reportedly-open-new-contract-talks-with-vladimir-coufal/) have been named among the clubs interested in signing West Brom attacker [Matheus Pereira](https://readwestham.com/2020/03/23/phillips-urges-pereira-to-stay-at-west-brom-amid-west-ham-links/) this summer.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a superb 2020/21 campaign despite the Baggies ultimate relegation – scoring [11 times and registering six assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matheus-pereira/leistungsdaten/spieler/225984) in the Premier League.

That form has led to speculation suggesting the Brazilian could remain a top-flight player next term, perhaps with the Midlands club aiming to recoup some [lost revenue](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/11358620/the-cost-of-relegation-what-is-the-financial-impact-of-dropping-out-of-the-premier-league) by selling their [prized asset](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-bromwich-albion/marktwertanalyse/verein/984).

According to a report from French outlet [Foot Mercato](https://www.footmercato.net/a5260558654803421639-wba-la-grosse-cote-de-matheus-pereira), as cited by [Westham\_hub](https://twitter.com/westham_hub/status/1397293417269538829) on Twitter, the Hammers have been named alongside Aston Villa as potential suitors for the ace’s signature.

The report also mentions a €25m (£21.5m) price tag for Pereira, a fee above the perceived £11.7m market value ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matheus-pereira/marktwertverlauf/spieler/225984)).

This season the man [described](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/matheus-pereira-west-brom-chelsea-19005143) as an ‘absolute delight to watch’ by Micah Richards earned an impressive average [Sofascore rating of 7.18](https://www.sofascore.com/player/matheus-pereira/377238) in 33 Premier League outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Uncapped by Brazil, Pereira has been somewhat of a [late bloomer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matheus-pereira/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/225984) professionally – only [truly finding form](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matheus-pereira/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/225984/plus/0/saison/2019/wettbewerb/GB2/verein/984) for West Brom during the promotion-winning campaign of 2019/20.

That said, this past season has been a hugely impactful one from the [versatile](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matheus-pereira/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/225984/plus/0/saison/2019/wettbewerb/GB2/verein/984) forward, especially considering the [plight of the side](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) moreover.

Possessing a [plethora of attacking skills](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/297389/Show/Matheus-Pereira), Pereira would be a brilliant addition to the squad at the London Stadium and one David Moyes should certainly consider.
