# Virals: West Ham named among teams chasing Junior Firpo

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/20/virals-carlton-cole-full-of-praise-for-west-ham-manager-david-moyes/) have once again been named among a host of suitors for Barcelona full-back [Junior Firpo](https://readwestham.com/2021/01/26/west-ham-called-barcelona-regarding-junior-firpo-transfer-latest/).

David Moyes is [seemingly in the market for a left-back](https://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/newcastle-united-confirm-the-signing-of-leeds-united-and-west-ham-target-matthew-bondswell-3171295) to initially act as an understudy to the evergreen Aaron Cresswell.

At 31, the Liverpudlian continues to [perform at the top level](https://www.sofascore.com/player/aaron-cresswell/43443) but there is little doubt Moyes will have one eye on a long-term replacement.

Having initially been[linked back in January](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/barcelona-struggle-west-ham-defender-junior), the Hammers have been named as one of numerous interested parties by Spanish outlet [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/), as cited by [Robin Bairner](https://twitter.com/RBairner/status/1395313261684346884) on Twitter.

Firpo joined the Catalan giants from Real Betis in a £27.5million deal ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49226799)), immediately imparting a staggering £183m buy-out clause as part of the [Spanish Under 21](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/junior-firpo/nationalmannschaft/spieler/374139/verein_id/15232) international’s contract.

Things haven’t gone to plan at the Camp Nou for the 24-year-old – making just [40 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/junior-firpo/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/374139) since signing in August 2019.

This season, the now Dominican Republic national team representative has played [17 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/junior-firpo/leistungsdaten/spieler/374139) in all competitions – scoring once and making one assist.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing Firpo would certainly be a statement of intent from the Hammers.

Highly regarded enough to earn a move to Barcelona, the [£9million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/junior-firpo/marktwertverlauf/spieler/374139) versatile defender would be a major coup for Moyes.

Ultimately, additional strength in depth is a necessity at the London Stadium over the summer – as proven by the [recent drop off in performances](https://www.skysports.com/west-ham-united-results) when injuries hit.
