# Virals: West Ham chances of signing Jesse Lingard reportedly fading

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/17/virals-reported-west-ham-target-praises-said-benrahma-on-twitter/) could be about to miss out on signing loan sensation [Jesse Lingard](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/14/virals-west-ham-loan-ace-jesse-lingard-wins-epl-award/) this summer.

The 28-year-old has been a player reborn since arriving from parent club Manchester United [until the end of the season](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/january/29-january/west-ham-united-sign-england-international-jesse-lingard-loan) on transfer deadline day back in February.

Having scored [nine goals and registered four assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdaten/spieler/141660) in just 14 Premier League games for the Hammers, David Moyes was [keen](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-transfer-news-jesse-lingard-man-utd-david-moyes-hope-b935221.html) to retain Lingard’s services for the 2021/22 campaign.

However, in a [report](https://theathletic.com/2591005/2021/05/17/west-hams-hopes-of-keeping-jesse-lingard-slipping-away-like-their-champions-league-dream/?source=rss) for The Athletic, as cited by [West Ham Fan Zone](https://twitter.com/WHUFCFZ/status/1394201485584515073) on Twitter, journalist Roshane Thomas has dampened any hopes of a permanent deal coming to fruition in the summer.

In the report, Thomas claims clubs have ‘started to form a disorderly queue’ for Lingard’s signature this summer and the Old Trafford outfit may only consider a deal with West Ham should central midfielder [Declan Rice](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-utd-declan-rice-transfer-24067929) be thrown into the bargain.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing the [27-cap England man](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/nationalmannschaft/spieler/141660/verein_id/3299) had to be viewed as a priority over the course of the summer.

Unfortunately, with Champions League football next season almost certainly [beyond reach](https://www.premierleague.com/tables), the Hammers could count the cost and miss out.

There remains the hope of course that the play himself will push for a permanent stay at the London Stadium having [galvanised his career](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/april/22-april/good-place-jesse-lingards-sensational-return-form-just-one-many) with the club.
