# Virals: West Ham are reportedly ‘returning’ for Nahitan Nandez

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/17/carlton-palmer-suggests-tottenham-could-swoop-for-david-moyes/) manager [David Moyes](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/15/virals-david-moyes-opens-the-door-to-marko-arnautovic-return/) will be hoping to build on what has been a superb 2020/21 campaign with a strong summer recruitment drive.

Having punched above their perceived weight for much of the season, the Hammers look as though they may just [miss out on a top-four finish](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) and subsequent Champions League football.

In part, the demise has come in [recent weeks](https://www.skysports.com/west-ham-united-results) due to key injuries and a lack of squad depth to cope with missing stars.

That is something the Scottish boss will likely be looking to rectify over the summer by [bolstering the options available](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) at The London Stadium.

One name that has [resurfaced as a man of interest](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/leeds-west-ham-learn-nahitan-nandez-cagliari-price-tag) for West Ham is that of Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez.

Originally [linked](https://www.centotrentuno.com/calcio/cagliari-nandez-il-mercato-si-avvicina-e-torna-di-moda-la-clausola/) before Christmas, the Hammers have been named as potential suitors once again for the 25-year-old in a report from Italian outlet [Corriere dello Sport](https://corrieredellosport.it/), as cited by [WHU News](https://twitter.com/WestHamHerald/status/1394258687116681219) on Twitter.

Nandez has [scored twice and registered three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nahitan-nandez/leistungsdaten/spieler/315063) in 31 Serie A appearances this season – earning an average [Sofascore rating of 6.82](https://www.sofascore.com/player/nahitan-nandez/589620).

Capped [35 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nahitan-nandez/nationalmannschaft/spieler/315063/verein_id/3449) by Uruguay, the cultured ace is described as a “tireless right-sided midfielder, who enjoys making late runs into the box” on the [FIFA website](https://www.fifa.com/worldcup/players/player/386284/).

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing Nandez would certainly bolster the options afforded to Moyes ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Valued at £22.5million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nahitan-nandez/marktwertverlauf/spieler/315063)), the midfielder is credited with [impressive defensive contribution](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/280928/Show/Nahitan-N%C3%A1ndez) and excellent crossing ability.

This season Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek had been [ever-present in the heart of the West Ham midfield](https://talksport.com/football/838372/declan-rice-tomas-soucek-player-of-the-year-west-ham/) before the former picked up a knee injury – leading to the assumption at least one addition is required.
