# Kevin Campbell can’t believe Declan Rice ‘too slow’ claims

Former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell has been left stunned by a report from [Claret & Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/man-united-scouts-have-declan-doubts/) claiming Manchester United will turn away from [Declan Rice](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/07/kevin-phillips-amazed-by-claims-declan-rice-is-too-slow/) because of his pace.

The report claimed the club’s interest in Rice has cooled given his [£100million price tag](https://theathletic.co.uk/2434616/2021/03/09/is-declan-rice-worth-100-million/) and being deemed ‘too slow’ to occupy the role required.

This season the 22-year-old has made [32 appearances across all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/leistungsdaten/spieler/357662) – leading David Moyes’ side as captain for the most part.

An abundance of fine displays has lead to [interest](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1433253/Man-Utd-Chelsea-Declan-Rice-transfer-update-West-Ham-SNT) from Chelsea and the Old Trafford club, however, Campbell told [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/campbell-stunned-by-source-update-on-man-united-signing-phenomenal-rice-at-west-ham/) he can’t comprehend why the latter would cite a lack of pace.

> A bit too slow? Slow? No, no, no, no way. I do not believe that for one second. Declan Rice is a fine player and an athletic player. He is a phenomenal holding midfielder who can play at centre-half as well, let’s not forget that he has that versatility to his game. He has been a revelation in the midfield. I really think he has been. He has been one of the mainstays of a West Ham team that could qualify for the Champions League this season. I would not worry about that.

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/10/otd-west-ham-wave-goodbye-to-upton-park-with-memorable-victory/)‘s top-four bid took another knock this weekend when the Irons [lost 1-0 to Everton](https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2021/may/09/west-ham-united-v-everton-premier-league-live) at the London Stadium with Rice still sidelined due to a knee injury.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Although Moyes and co would be happy for all to maintain the belief the [15-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/nationalmannschaft/spieler/357662/verein_id/3299) England man was indeed ‘too slow’ to leave east London – it simply isn’t the case.

At no point this season has Rice looked short on pace, despite playing in a [demanding midfield anchor role](https://talksport.com/football/846100/west-ham-declan-rice-tomas-soucek-worth-lorry-limbs/) alongside Tomas Soucek.

Instead, the [£54million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/marktwertverlauf/spieler/357662) ace has been a revelation once again this term and [continues to flourish](https://www.sofascore.com/player/declan-rice/856714) when exposed to elite level competition.
