# Pundit Reactions: Tony Cottee hails David Moyes for ‘fantastic season’

Former [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/08/virals-west-ham-squad-give-mark-noble-a-birthday-to-remember/) striker Tony Cottee has hailed David Moyes for the Hammers’ successful 2020/21 campaign.

Having narrowly [avoided relegation](https://talksport.com/football/734041/west-ham-all-but-secure-survival-win-watford/#:~:text=important-,West%20Ham%20all%20but%20secure%20Premier%20League%20survival%20thanks%20to,points%20against%20relegation%20rivals%20Watford&text=West%20Ham's%20place%20in%20the,against%20Watford%20on%20Friday%20night.) last season many might’ve anticipated another difficult year for the east Londoners.

However, with just four Premier League fixtures remaining – starting this afternoon against Everton – the Irons sit [five points outside the top-four](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) with a game in hand over Leicester City.

Speaking on t[alkSPORT’s Sunday Sports Breakfast](https://talksport.com/radio/listen-again/1620536400/1620545400/) with Natalie Sawyer & Tony Cascarino (Sunday, May 9, 8.35 am) the [111 appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tony-cottee/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/107792) ex-Hammer lauded the Scottish manager for the transformation.

> They’ve got all the words you don’t associate with West Ham – resilience, strength, good team spirit, great togetherness – they’ve got everything this team, he’s done amazing really (Moyes). This time last season they were nearly getting relegated, he’s transformed it. He’s been good in the transfer market. They’re having a fantastic season.

Cascarino went onto ask about the previous ‘problem’ players such as [Marko Arnautovic and Dimitri Payet](https://www.thenationalnews.com/sport/football/marko-arnautovic-s-west-ham-exit-follows-in-the-footsteps-of-dimitri-payet-1.884002), the 55-year-old explained how Moyes demands ‘100 per cent effort’ from his players and how the current crop are exuding ‘confidence’.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Perhaps the biggest difference from last season to this looks to be the togetherness coming out of the camp.

Although a vastly improved squad [following the arrivals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/transfers/verein/379) of Vladimir Coufal, Jesse Lingard and the permanent signing of [Tomas Soucek](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/09/virals-tomas-souceks-house-hunt-gets-twitter-talking/), there remains no standout superstar.

Instead, Moyes has tapped into a [bond between the group](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/january/31-january/michail-antonio-team-spirit-celebrations-and-virtual-reality) that has thus far seen the Irons punch well above their weight.
