# Don Hutchinson compares Michail Antonio to Roberto Firmino

Former Premier League midfielder Don Hutchinson has been comparing [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/04/jamie-carragher-lauds-vladimir-coufal-display-vs-burnley/) forward [Michail Antonio](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/03/virals-michail-antonio-return-circulates-on-social-media/) to Liverpool star Roberto Firmino.

This comes after Antonio made a successful return to the Hammers lineup on Monday night, [scoring twice](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56883236) as David Moyes’ side came from 1-0 down to pick up a crucial three points in the race for the top four.

The 30-year-old netted his [11th Premier League goal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michail-antonio/leistungsdaten/spieler/104124) of the season when his header found a way past Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope.

However, Hutchinson told [Optus Sport](https://sport.optus.com.au/epl/videos/os24329/os24329-burnley-v-west-ham-united) that the talismanic striker offers more than just goals and likened the ace to Firmino.

> He does a lot more than score goals. He will never be prolific and score 20, but he works hard. Firmino at Liverpool, different player, he won’t hit 20 goals like Antonio – but he’ll do the work for Mane and Salah. It is the same with Antonio, the way he runs the channels, the way he presses the centre-halves – now he’s hitting those numbers, he is a complete centre-forward. But if he isn’t scoring, he still offers something to the team.

Antonio, who was [hailed as a ‘massive threat’](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2020/12/03/massive-threat-stuart-pearce-lauds-7m-west-ham-ace-whos-found-a-new-lease-of-life/) by Irons coach Stuart Pearce, has been an integral part of Moyes’ side when fit, leading from the front with unwavering work rate and determination.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

There are certainly comparisons to be drawn between the two in terms of [playing style](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/69517/Show/Michail-Antonio).

Both strikers have an [unrivalled desire to defend from the front](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/96182/Show/Roberto-Firmino), although it could certainly be argued Antonio remains a bigger goal threat.

Given that Firmino has managed just [six Premier League goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/roberto-firmino/leistungsdaten/spieler/131789) this term, the [recently switched allegiances](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12248691/michail-antonio-west-ham-striker-chooses-jamaica-over-england) Jamaican international is outperforming the Brazilian this season.

That said, there’s little doubt Antonio would swap a few goals for a [trophy cabinet](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/roberto-firmino/erfolge/spieler/131789) to match the Liverpool ace – boasting the UEFA Champions League, Premier League and Super Cup honours.
