# Virals: Declan Rice gets embroiled in hilarious nickname conversation

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/04/28/virals-david-moyes-and-lukasz-fabianski-claim-awards/) star [Declan Rice](https://readwestham.com/2021/04/23/virals-declan-rice-tipped-to-leave-west-ham-without-ucl-qualification/) became embroiled in an on-air debate between talkSPORT presenters Jason Cundy and Andy Goldstein on Tuesday night.

Discussing player nicknames, Cundy – a [former Chelsea player](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jason-cundy/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/176789) – claimed Mason Mount was known simply as ‘Mase’.

Unsure, show host Goldstein, a [Manchester United fan](https://talksport.com/football/652633/man-utd-man-city-andy-goldstein-emotional-rant-angry-upset/), contacted Hammers ace and best friend to the Blues youngster, Rice.

Soon after the 22-year-old got in touch with the show and all was revealed live, as posted by the [station’s official Twitter](https://twitter.com/talkSPORT/status/1387294257191415809) account.

After yet more conjecture followed over Rice’s nickname, the [15-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/nationalmannschaft/spieler/357662/verein_id/3299) England man confirmed his own nickname in football circles was ‘Dec’, not some of the other names suggested on the show.

Currently working his way[back to full fitness](https://twitter.com/WestHam/status/1387041370108416004) from a knee injury, David Moyes will be desperate to get his combative central midfielder back into the heart of the midfield.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Rice comes across yet again as a wonderfully amicable individual here.

Not only is the youngster growing in stature on the field, but also proving himself to be a [hugely approachable person](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUC642_tP-Y) off it also.

Having [captained the side](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/357662/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/379) for much of the season, Rice looks to be the perfect successor to Mark Noble as club captain at the London Stadium.
