# Marlon Harewood hails Tomas Soucek’s winning menatality

Former [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/04/27/paddy-kenny-slams-unbelievably-bad-fabian-balbuena-decision/) striker Marlon Harewood has praised [Tomas Soucek](https://readwestham.com/2021/03/03/west-ham-fans-debate-mike-deans-appointment-for-leeds-united-clash/) for his winning mentality since arriving in east London.

Soucek initially arrived at the London Stadium on loan from Slavia Prague last January before [making the move permanent](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12035297/west-ham-sign-tomas-soucek-from-slavia-prague-on-four-year-deal) ahead of the ongoing 2021/22 campaign.

In that time, the [33-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tomas-soucek/leistungsdaten/spieler/283628) Czech Republic international has proven to be a pivotal asset in the heart of the Irons midfield, making himself a threat in both boxes having found the net [12 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tomas-soucek/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/283628) for the Hammers.

Following a defeat to Manchester City earlier this season, Harewood has told [Football FanCast](https://www.footballfancast.com/west-ham-united-news/exclusive-harewood-soucek-winning-mentallity-e82) that the 26-year-old was far from happy with the outcome.

> I heard that after the Man City game he was absolutely devastated about the result because they played so well, and they wanted it so much. That’s the sort of mentality that you want at West Ham. The next day he went into training fuming but he was straight back on it, which is what you want.

Soucek’s displays in claret and blue have been attracting [reported interest](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/soucek-tipped-to-attract-interest-from-premier-league/1d7hn27o3s7q213lmhc72tdoy9) from Bayern Munich and Manchester United, although the Hammers hold out hope of [striking a new deal](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-west-ham-offering-soucek-new-contract-and-big-pay-hike-amid-man-united-interest/) with the midfield enforcer.

This season the 6’5 ace has earned an average [Sofascore rating of 7.12](https://www.sofascore.com/player/tomas-soucek/799041), perhaps owing to his workmanlike mentality.

Having players who strive for perfection and take losses to heart can be no bad things.
